As Good as it Gets...

bikes(Great TriJuice.com / Nick Morales photo - 1500 bikes)

Race Coverage - Marcus Stromberg was awesome on Sunday at the Buffalo Triathlon. So were Suzie Fox and Ben Trnka and Jennifer Imsande and Jamie Heying and Ann Snuggerud and a plethora of others who had this one important thing in common: none of them won. Not outright, that is. Other folks--Chris Legh (Olympic pro champ), Patrick Parish (Olympic amateur champ), Cathy Yndestad (Olympic women's champ) and Cindy Blackstock (Sprint women's champ) did that.

But the other mentioned folks here had every right to feel victorious. All of them had breakout performances and now demand elevated respect from their tri-peers....

Buffalo & Pigman Headlines...

logoBuffalo Triathlon IX - Cathy Yndestad's slumbering mojo woke up this morning in Buffalo. The result was a victory, her 3rd here and 52nd of her illustrious career. She was pushed to a sub-2:10 by Suzie Fox, who set an Olympic-distance PR, 2:11:42. Kortney Haag's hammie was good to go this morning. She placed 3rd.

Six-time Buff Olympic champ Chris Legh had to overtake Devon Palmer, who has this cool Wyatt Earpish mustache and soul patch thing going on, late in the race to keep his Tri Buff win streak alive. Patrick Parish took the amateur crown, keeping him undefeated in four starts this season....

skydiver(Photo - One of the dudes in this FB shot is Dylan Gillespie, the guy who won the 7th annual New Bri Tri yesterday.)

Race Coverage - When Forest Lake High School swimmer Dylan Gillespie, then 16, raced at the 2009 New Bri Tri, finishing 22nd. At this morning's NBT the former Papa Murphy's pizza-schlepper WON, beating a gaggle of highly credentialed triathletes, guys like Brendan O'Flanigan, two-time winner here, Dan Arlandson, former pro John "Shelper" Shelp, Chris Sachs, who with his trusty canine Toby, won the 2011 National Skijering Championships, John Heinlein III, Jeff Grebner and the backward-ballcapped Mo Mouw, who missed a few years of racing due to Lyme Disease..

We think that Dylan attends Montana State University. We're not sure. He has been known to hang out in Bozeman, so we made the leap. We know that he has an adoring family, including a sister named Taryn, who possesses supermodel gorgeosity, plays guitar, and rarely watches TV. His margin of victory over Brendan O'Flangan, who has a sore calf and son named Cal who is...

Love for Shorties...

finishRace Preview - The Buffalo Triathlon is one of 21 Minnesota multis that feature both long (relatively speaking) and short course events. The longer events are traditionally more competitive than the shorter ones, which are largely, though not exclusively, designed to appeal to newcomers and recreational athletes.

This said, it should not be assumed that the short course companion events are not as cool as their longer course partners. In some ways they are, in fact, much cooler.

Take Sunday's Buffalo Triathlon, for instance. Approximately 440 of the total 1600 participants are registered for the long course (Olympic distance) race and 1042 have signed up for the short course (sprint) event. (The remainder are registered as relay entrants.) In general, the shorties significantly outdraw the longies.

What does this tell us?...
