Race Preview - On Sunday the 23rd Manitou Sprint Triathlon will kick off the second season of the OptumHealth Performance Series. Manitou is also the fourth of nine races comprising the 2012 Midwest Multisport Series. It is expected to draw 400+ participants to its wonderful venue on the scenic north shore of White Bear Lake.
Every race has many races within itself. For example, on Sunday we are anxious to see how the junior girls fare. This race within the race features 2011 Junior of the Year Hannah Strom, plus fellow 2011 nominees Greta and Paige Danielson, 2010 JOY Kate Lowrey and last week's 19U winner at Buffalo Olympic, Mata Agre. The...

ED. Liberty will be contested at Lake Rebecca in Rockford, not Lake Independence. It's a construction deal.
(Photo - One of these girls is Christina Roberts, who hopes to repeat as Liberty Olympic champion next Saturday. She just might do that. The other girl is probably one of Christina's friends.)
Race Preview - Yesterday we wrote about the epic battle that should unfold between Michelle Andres and Kortney Haag at this weekend's Liberty Half. Today we'll preview the dude's half and the Olympic race.
The usual elite suspects will not be on hand this year. We're talking about past LH champions, Dan Arlandson, Josh Riff, Devon Palmer, Jon Balabuck, you know, the sub-4:15-on-this-tough-course guys. But there is a guy who....

Race Preview - Minnesota's Long Distance Opener, the Liberty Half, is Saturday and the MTN Guys are psyched. It is the women's race that intrigues us the most. We believe that the duel between defending champ Michelle Andres and 2009 Pigman Half winner, Kortney Haag will be epic, and determine the victor. And the runner-up. We're not suggesting that there aren't other competitive girls in the race. There are. We'll mention a few in a moment.
First, let's talk about Michelle. She has been training like a banshee lately, sometimes approaching 30-hours a week. That's serious! Her target race is Ironman Wisconsin and she's determined...

* DOING THE MATH - On Saturday Dylan Gillespie, 19, of Forest Lake recorded his first triathlon victory at New Bri. The women's winner was Hilary Patzer, whose victory was the 3rd of her career and 2nd in a week's time. She also won the Seahorse Challenge Olympic Triathlon in Michigan on May 27.

Race Coverage - Marcus Stromberg was awesome on Sunday at the Buffalo Triathlon. So were Suzie Fox and Ben Trnka and Jennifer Imsande and Jamie Heying and Ann Snuggerud and a plethora of others who had this one important thing in common: none of them won. Not outright, that is. Other folks--Chris Legh (Olympic pro champ), Patrick Parish (Olympic amateur champ), Cathy Yndestad (Olympic women's champ) and Cindy Blackstock (Sprint women's champ) did that.
But the other mentioned folks here had every right to feel victorious. All of them had breakout performances and now demand elevated respect from their tri-peers....
