Graniteman- Big Lake - This great new race was won by local fave, Troy Anderson, and 2004 Minnesota Triathlete of the Year, Becky Youngberg. For Youngberg, it was her 5th victory of the year and 31st since the turn of the millennium. Only Cathy Yndestad (49) and Jan Guenther (35) have won more races during this period. Thanks to outrageous bike and run splits, Becky managed to finish 3rd overall, just eight seconds out of 2nd place .
April Morgan (photo L) collected her 2nd consecutive runner-up award. She also placed 2nd two weeks ago at Chisago Sprint. As you can see, April likes to sit in creeks.

ED. Many of you knew Twin Cities triathlete Terry Alexander. A great guy from a great family, and a very accomplished triathlete. Terry died recently from injuries sustained in a head-on collision in Long Lake. His dear friend, and ours, Jeremy Sartain is setting up a memorial fund. Here is his letter to you. We hope you can help.
Hi everyone,
A memorial fund for Terry has been set up to assist with funeral costs and any other items his family deem necessary. If Terry had 2 shirts he would give one away. It's time for us to give back a little to the family of a man who gave so much of himself....

Race Previews - Likely 2011 Triathlete of the Year nominee, Becky Youngberg, is signed up for two multis this weekend. On Saturday, she's slated to do the inaugural Graniteman-Big Lake Triathlon, a much-anticipated event produced by the cool folks who give us G-Man-Clear Lake and the G-Man Series. Big Lake replaces the Paynesville Area Tri, not because the PAT was struggling, but because BL, thanks largely to its proximity to the Twin Cities, will have more mainstream appeal. Paynesville was challenging, not just competitively, but from a travel and lodging standpoint...
A Lucky Mistake....

ED. We spoke with Kevin O'Connor of Gear West Bike & Triathlon on the phone on Monday. We discussed Dan Arlandson's record-setting performance at Vineman and how goshdarn cool the town of Waseca is. We asked Kevin to comment on his experience in that wonderful community last Sunday. He sent us these words:

Nice talking to you this morning. Quite impressive what Dan Arlandson did down at Vineman. It was 20 years ago I did Vineman as my first Irondistance race. It was just my second tri but I was only 20 yrs of age so I didn't know any better. There was no such thing as a tri shop and with no email or internet I didn't have anyone telling me I was stupid to do it....
