Race Coverage

Saturday's Newsy Stuff...Updated...

aprilGraniteman- Big Lake - This great new race was won by local fave, Troy Anderson, and 2004 Minnesota Triathlete of the Year, Becky Youngberg. For Youngberg, it was her 5th victory of the year and 31st since the turn of the millennium. Only Cathy Yndestad (49) and Jan Guenther (35) have won more races during this period. Thanks to outrageous bike and run splits, Becky managed to finish 3rd overall, just eight seconds out of 2nd place .

April Morgan (photo L) collected her 2nd consecutive runner-up award. She also placed 2nd two weeks ago at Chisago Sprint. As you can see, April likes to sit in creeks.

More stuff on the next page...

Minnewaska Triathlon - Denver Rogalla is a fine and handsome young man who has Mononucleartosis, or something like that. "Mono" for short. He got this disease from kissing his girlfriend (photo R), whom he loves enough to keep kissing her. Apparently, Mono is called "The Kissing Disease" because people who get it want to keep on kissing people.denv

She, her name is either Nancy or Shirley, claims she got the disease from him? Who ya gonna believe? A triathlete? A member of your tribe! Or a cute girl with designer glasses?

Despite his kiss-weakened state, Denv podiumed this morning at Minnewaska. How totally studly is that! To be precise, he finished 3rd behind winner Jesse Westrup, who picked up his first career tri win, and local guy Josh Doebbert, who improved from 6th place in 2010. Rogalla also finished 3rd last year, despite being totally healthy.

Ang "Sister Christian" Hop-Mracek won her first career tri last weekend at Hoot Lake. She followed that up with a victory here this morning. He margin last week was two seconds. Today's was a tad more convincing: 3:21 over impressive teen Jane Koch, 14. Jane was 15th here in 2010 in a time that was more than nine minutes slower than today's clocking.

andyStay tuned for more verbiage and hopefully some photos... RESULTS

Lakefront Days Triathlon - Prior Lake's Andy Schiesl (photo L with hot babe) won his hometown tri for the 3rd consecutive year this morning. His brisk 50:37 lowered Brett Lovaas' previous CR by 22 seconds. The women's winner was Tracy Serreyn, who also was victorious at Chaska three weeks ago. Tracy's son Kyle also excelled here this morning. A three-time Minnesota Junior of the Year nominee, Kyle, now 20, placed 2nd overall (he was 3rd here in 2010). RESULTS
