Have You Had Your Ecotherapy Today?

While most everyone knows spending time outside makes you happier, we now have scientific proof that it also makes you healthier. Therapy that uses nature as a tool, termed “ecotherapy”, has long been gaining prominence amongst mental health professionals. Studies have shown lowering of depression scores by over 70 % among test subjects taking a walk in nature compared to walking in a shopping mall. While many athletes may say “I’m not prone to depression” and “My workouts should be stressful to be effective”, it is prudent to examine the chemical and physiologic basis of stress and...

Glad to be Done...

laura-knoblach.gifBy Mitchell Hansen (sctimes.com)

ORLANDO, Fla. — Laura Knoblach made history last Friday.

The 21-year-old St. Cloud native became the youngest woman ever to finish a double triathlon, competing in Double ANVIL Ultra Triathlon at Lake Louisa State Park.

The event consists of swimming 4.8 miles, biking 224 miles and running two consecutive marathons for a total of 52.4 miles. Knoblach needed to complete it in under 36 hours.

She finished with a time of 34 hours, 20 minutes and 38 seconds.

"It was long, but went remarkably well," said Knoblach, who is a 2013 graduate of St. Cloud Christian School. "With it being a long race, I was nervous about sleep deprivation, but it wasn't a problem at all....

dani-boat.gifDIMPLES GIRL - Second-year pro DANI FISCHER, originally from Rochester, now residing in Indianapolis, raced at Puerto Rico 70.3 last Sunday. Fischer, the (amateur) US Duathlete of the Year and AOY HM in 2014 and Elite DOY in 2015, raced solidly in the first two phases but lost a huge amount of ground in the run, which is very, very uncharacteristic. Dani is one of the fastest runners in our sport. Off the bike, she appeared to be headed for a Top 5, but ultimately had to settle for 9th (4:42:31). We've asked Dani, who we miss immensely, to write a race report. RESULTS

UPPERS & COMERERS - Who is going to be the next big (amateur) star here in Minnesota? Who is going to give MATTHEW PAYNE a run for his money in '16?  ...

Breaking 2:10...

gaby-felt.gifIn women's amateur triathlon the number 2:10 is magic. We're talking about Olympic distance racing here. Few women ever match or break that standard, and those that do tend to get their pro license shortly therafter.

In this millennium, HEATHER LENDWAY has the fastest Minnesota amateur time at 1.5-40-10K: 2:05:06 - A USAT Nationals record, set in 2014. The only Minnesota women with faster Olympic clockings are GWEN JORGENSEN (1:59) and HEIDI KELLER MILER (2:03-04ish). However, both of those women were pros when they set their personal bests....
