Chasing "Mystery Kid"....

MIKIE-RUN.gifED. On Tuesday, MTN posted stuff about Mike Ward, highlighting the fact that he is a tri star on the rise. In addition to his multisport success, he is also a blogger (mikeward.com), dog lover, beer maker, winter hiker/survivalist and ultramarathoner. Posted here is his Wild Duluth 50K race report. Enjoy. Race Day: Saturday, October 17, 2015 – 8am

Time for the pain. The Superior Hiking Trail brings the pain every time. It isn’t very runable, so why not try to run 31 miles as fast you can on it? I love this very fun race, though, and couldn’t resist registering for it to defend my title....

Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico – Race Report

I was debating all off-season whether to get my feet wet racing in 2016 in Puerto Rico or Monterrey, Mexico. Up until about a month ago, I still hadn’t decided which race I was going to compete in. I had talked to fellow pro Heather Lendway about the possible competition that would be in attendance at either event, and learned it would be stacked either way. I considered this race as a “mini vacation” of sorts, so I ultimately decided on PR due to its tourism and ease of travel (it’s a U.S. territory).

I knew it was going to be hot and humid. I also know I’m not the best racer in those conditions. Going into the race, there was a lot of uncertainty as to how my offseason training was going to prepare me for this race, how the weather would affect me, and how my new nutrition plan would work. Everyone seemed to be confident in me. Everyone, that is, except myself. I knew a lot of variables had to come together for me to have a good day....

ORLANDO, Fla. — Laura Knoblach made history last Friday.

The 21-year-old St. Cloud native became the youngest woman ever to finish a double triathlon, competing in Double ANVIL Ultra Triathlon at Lake Louisa State Park.

The event consists of swimming 4.8 miles, biking 224 miles and running two consecutive marathons for a total of 52.4 miles. Knoblach needed to complete it in under 36 hours.

She finished with a time of 34 hours, 20 minutes and 38 seconds.

"It was long, but went remarkably well," said Knoblach, who is a 2013 graduate of St. Cloud Christian School. "With it being a long race, I was nervous about sleep deprivation, but it wasn't a problem at all....

Only in Minnesota do you wake up to two inches of fresh snow on race morning. I’d been stalking the weather all week, but nowhere did it say it would be measurable!  ...

Mantras & Underused Allen Wrenches...

NYC-Triathlon.gifED. It's time to start thinking about racing. This post may get you in the mood to do just that. We did not post Jess Rossing NYC Triathlon race report last July, so we're doing it now. Enjoy.

By Jessica Rossing (jessicarossing.com)

I just got back from New York City yesterday afternoon. I love that city. The people, the energy, the food, the trains (subways), the diversity of everything.

I also love the NYC Triathlon. Why? For a lot of the same reasons. It's a world class event. The course is great. The people, volunteers, and spectators are truly some of the best. I love running up 72nd into Central Park with ...

"Not What I Had Hoped For..."

Buenos Aires 70.3 Race Report - Patrick and I took the ten hour overnight flight to Buenos Aires on Wednesday night.  My goal for the flight there was to get as much sleep as possible so I could stay on a somewhat normal schedule.  While sleeping sitting up is highly uncomfortable I was able to get at least six hours of sleep I suspect.  Upon arriving in Buenos Aires I found another athlete, Greg, from my flight also anxiously awaiting the arrival of their bike on the luggage carousel.  We got to chatting and discovered (thanks to the fact that I was wearing my Macalester Water Polo t-shirt) that his wife (Nicole)  was also a Macalester graduate, she was coming later in the week to watch the race. ...
