Syvertson Sets Record....Updated...

pull-up.png

TINMAN TRIATHLON - SPENCER SYVERTSON, pronounced "See-vert-son," not "Sigh-vert-son," contacted the MTN Guys last week. He was curious about the Morris Tinman's Sprint men's course record. We did some digging and reported that the CR - 1:04:33 was set back in 2014 by South Dakotan CRAIG HARRISON.

Despite facing ferocious winds this morning, Syvertson managed to blow the doors off the Sprint record, taking it down by 3:10. The 22-year-old Paynesvillian is a Minnesota State grad and is a good friend of JAKE BRAAM, who is a very cool guy, He also has really good pull-up form (top photo).

Placing 2nd after Spencer was elite junior JACK HENNEN, 18, of Cambridge, whose 1:07:59 torched the junior course record by 7:40. We'd be surprised if Jack didn't garner a Junior of the Year nomination at season's-end. Jack is quite tall, has really good hair and looks great in collarless shirts (photo below R)....

Running For Fun...

"Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it." ~Oprah Winfrey

While I do triathlons and would call myself a triathlete above all else, running seems to be the sport I talk about most. It's the sport I struggle the most with, but it's also the sport I think I have the most to gain in both physically and mentally. Maybe that's why it's easiest to talk about.

Yesterday (May 7) I ran my third half-marathon. It was a pretty spur of the moment decision... I was talking to my friend Rose no more than two weeks ago when she told me she was doing a race this weekend. Inside my head I immediately thought, "I should do that with her!" I then immediately shut that idea down, thinking that I couldn't just sign up for a half-marathon less than 14 days from the actual race with no focused...

This post is a little late but I wanted to keep everyone updated on how the Saint Anthony’s race went. I first have to say thank you to our host family who welcomed us into their home for 6 days and went above and beyond anyone could have imaged. Carolyn Kiper and her husband (Tim) are outstanding individuals who are the most gracious people I have ever met. They made the trip so enjoyable and the time in Tampa better than I could have dreamed of.

I also have to applaud Saint Anthony’s triathlon and all the people that make this race happen. It’s the most professional race I have ever been to. They have it so down and the hospitality and genuine love for the sport is second to none, this race will become a staple event for me and always be on the schedule....

Photogenic Dismounts & Running For Both of Us...

Ironman 70.3 Texas  Race Report - The lead up to this race was both uneventful and very eventful.  Training was pretty stable and consistent.  After a solid offseason and recovery at the end of last season, I started to pick it up at the beginning of January with Matt Hanson’s training camp in Clermont, FL.  We had a wonderful time getting outside on our bikes, putting in some base miles, and getting some sun. I also joined Matt Hanson’s Racing Team for the season and am pretty stoked being able to be part of the community and continued checking off my coach, Jen Harrison’s, workouts one by one.

The eventfulness came in my non-triathlon life. After months of loading up my bike, swim gear, running shoes, Normatecs, and basically my entire life in no less than 10 bags into my car every weekends to visit Ted in Minneapolis, I decided it was a good time to make a change. I was ready to move on in my career and on December 17th, I became a Clinical Research Program Manager for UnitedHealth Group’s Research and Development department.  I can’t say enough good things about this super fun and nerdy job so far (including a recent promotion to Associate Research Director!) and living in Minneapolis has been a dream....

Like Nationals, St. Anthony's Triathlon is one of "those" races.

As a super high-profile event, St. A attracts our country's most ambitious amateurs. Success there is often a springbard to a pro career....

YWCA's Indoor Season Finale....

francie2.png

YWCA Indoor Triathlon #4 - KAITLIN RANDOLPH has mastered the indoor tri thing, and we are anxious to see how she fares in outdoor races this summer. The cat-loving Carleton grad had entered, and won, the women's title in all four of the YWCA's Indoor tris she did this winter/spring. In January, she won the Sprint race outright. In February, March and April, she won the long course events, each effort faster than the one before.

It should be noted that Randolph's margin of victory two weekends ago was slim, just four seconds ahead of FRANCIE STREICH (photo), who is a HOOT! MTN featured her in March 2018 after her runner-up YWCA Indoor effort. LINK

Kaitlin has limited outdoor swim-bike-run experience, but has said she plans to get more involved this year. If so, she will be one of several emerging women MTN (and the MMH Committee) will be watching closely.

Who are some of the others?

PAIGE SCHULZ, PAULINE AAMODT and RACHEL ZILINSKAS.

So you know, the April YWCA Indoor happened on April 14, and boasted it's best turnout of the year, and perhaps ever. One hundred and twenty-nine athletes finished the event, which was 35 more than the second largest 2019 turnout (February)....
