With his win at Green Lake Sprint and podium finishes at Big Lake and Young Life, Fargo's AJ MANNING (photo L) was the slam-dunk recipient of the Most Improved honor last season. We're glad to hear that he plans to race on the Minnesota side of the Red River in 2021:
Hi MTN,
I'm currently my plans are to race Des Moines 70.3, Age Group Nationals in Milwaukee and Madison WI 70.3. I will then add in 2-3 local Minnesota races as well just not decided on which ones quite yet. - AJ
ANDY ZABEL (photo R) enjoyed a breakout year in 2019. His career resume boasts 11 multisport wins, four of which were posted in '19. He can't wait to race in 2021...

Every Sunday afternoon I sit down in my home office prepping for next week’s clients directly in front of one of my favorite quotes:
“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
While George Bernard Shaw has many famous expressions, the words “grow old” in this particular quote could be replaced by any number of phrases directly relevant to a triathlete.
We lose motivation when sessions get long or boring. We aggravate old niggles when our training is out of balance. We plateau with lack of variability. I have found few in this sport who aren’t striving to remain youthful, vibrant, and competitive as they age. So if you’re one of these athletes, now’s your time...

MTN recently reached out to approximately 50 of our state's most successful triathletes to see if they are as anxious as we are to get back to a normal racing season in 2021. Almost all of them responded immediately. And almost all of them are not only anxious to race again, but hope they can encourage others to get fired up for next season. Here's a few of their comments: ..

Last Monday we reached out to about fifty of our state's most accomplished triathletes. We asked them to offer some post-pandemic motivational words for Minnesota's multisport community. The goal is to get folks fired up for the 2021 season.
We immediately heard from several athletes, and chose to kick off these posts with the wise and inspiring comments of long-course stud DAN ARLANDSON, the only Minnesotan to win two Iron-distance races (Vineman and Great Floridian) in the same season.
Hi MTN, happy to share my thoughts:
I am a fan of “Once a Runner” although the message of that book can be applied to triathlon, as well. This is one of my favorite quotes.
“You don't become a runner by winning a morning workout. The only true way is to marshal the ferocity of your ambition over the course of many day, weeks, months, and (if you could finally come to accept it) years.”
― John L. Parker Jr., Once a Runner
The “ferocity of my ambition” has been fueled by a lost season from the following realizations:
1) We are lucky to be able to race and train for this silly sport. Super duper lucky.
2) This silly sport is anything but silly....
