Ironman Wisconsin is a fabulous race to watch. With the swim, transition, finish and much of the run all within walking distance it is easy logistically for both athletes and spectators. This year the athletes lucked out with a cool and overcast race day.
I worked with Ken Glah’s Endurance Sports Travel for the weekend helping athletes get around town. This was a great experience...

Long Course Duathlon World champs race summary:
Started out nice and easy on the first 10k run. Exactly where I wanted to be at mid pack. By the 3rd and last 50k lap on the bike, I made my way to 2nd place with a good lead on 3rd, and within reach of first place female. Then, after a long descent, I crashed on a 90-degree turn from to avoid slamming a car that was not stopped by the volunteers. Bike and RBM hit the pavement and my bike had a mechanical issue. The back wheel wasn't turning. When I took the wheel out, the tire went POP! Flat tire took more time to change than expected but was fortunate that it resolved. After I got back on the road, I was in 9th place coming off the bike. The 30k run was BRUTAL. Basically no flats, just up and down steep climbs and downhills the whole way. Painful on the quads! Anyway, finally caught the 3rd place female with 100 meters to go in the race in the finishing arena (which was exhilarating!), so some how, some way I managed a podium 3rd place finish. Suffering and perseverance were huge today. Never experienced anything like it.

Sometime during my post-race endorphin high, I wrote to MTN to tell them I’d do a race report for the St. Croix Valley Sprint Triathlon. I was feeling really good about my race and about the triathlon world in general. I just wanted to tell everyone about it. So along with a brief race report, I’m going to rant about the positivity of triathlon. Here goes.
First, I should introduce myself. You might recognize my last name, as I’m the older sister of the reigning age-group national champion, Heather Lendway. And, as much as I’d love to be the overly proud older sister and brag about all of her accomplishments, I don’t think that’s what this is supposed to be

Race dates are ingrained in our mind. We know that Chisago Lakes triathlon is the last weekend in July, the Chicago marathon and the Ironman World Championship is the second week in October, and the Boston marathon is always on Patriots Day. If we know those dates, even without our own participation, then we must surely have the organizational skills and adequate handheld calendars to know when our own races are drawing near. If this is so, then why do we need online race “ticker” time bombs on race websites that serve no purpose but create undue anxiety and unnecessary freak-outs? Days suddenly vanish, denial sets in, and we begin to doubt the accuracy of these evil numbers. Why does it always seem that the ticker is one day off too? They should be banished forever. Enough! Anyway…. there are 4 days, 17 hours, and 3 minutes, and 28 seconds until my “A” race of the season: ITU Long Course Duathlon World Championship (Powerman Zofingen), in Zofingen, Switzerland on September 8th. ...

Dave's Dickensian Tale

Today was the worst day I have had in my 2 year career of triathlon…and it was also my best day. Today I raced the Duluth Superiorman Half Ironman (my first half ironman), and it was the hardest test of strength, endurance and will power I have experienced in all my 26 years on this earth.
Before I get into the details of race day and the lessons-learned, let me first set you up with the prelude to this race day story. Training: 20 week plan win which I hardly ever deviated and almost always felt fresh and strong (ok, there were maybe a few days I felt tired and sore). Confidence: All-time high!
