Going Off Course - Like Charlie Sheen, Beth Shipston has an addictive personality. Charlie's addicted to lots of stuff that is self-destructive: tobacco, drugs, alcohol and kinky naughty stuff with professional kinky naughty people. Beth, on the other hand, is addicted to self-elevating stuff, like love, Patriotism, fitness, smiling, people, Canada, Minnesota, children, Pink and popcorn. Her only two vices are texting, for which there is no known cure, and ribs, which she was introduced to in Decadent Duluth, not Decent Canada....

Triathlon transition can be crazy and even cause some to become frantic. Organized chaos is an apt description for the 4th leg of triathlon. In order to reduce the chaotic fervor, race directors can assemble participant-friendly transition areas which would include: (a) providing ample racks for bikes; (b) having clear signage for exiting and entering the transition area; (c) providing wide lanes between bike racks; (d) ensuring fair times by having age divisions racking together and having equal in/out distances for all participants; and (e) providing comfortable and safe viewing areas for...

Two high profile Minnesota athletes traveled to Clermont Florida this past weekend to participate in the draft legal race event at Lake Louisa hosted by Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker. Patrick Parish, 2010 US Sprint National Champion, and Kate Lowrey, 2010 US Youth National Points Champion, chose to take on the early season challenge, each with specific goals and objectives in mind.
Patrick participated in his first draft legal triathlon. His race was an open class, 75 person field of mainly division 1 collegiate swimmers and runners who had been recruited by Olympian Barb Lindquist to try triathlon. The objective was to try the draft legal format and also gun for the...
