BUFFALO TRIATHLON - The weather wasn't nearly as yucky as was anticipated. The grey, dank conditions didn't slow down Matt Payne, who set an Olympic course record. Elaine Nelson took the women's Olympic title. John Heinlein held off Brain Sames in the Sprint. He was joined in the Winner's Circle by Cheryl Zitur. RESULTS
PIGMAN SPRINT - 2007 US Athlete of the Year, Daniel Bretscher, a 7th-year pro from Mount Vernon, Iowa, held off David Thompson for the win. St. Paul's Heather Lendway (photo) annihilated the women's course record. RESULTS
UPDATE: MTN received this email from Kevin O'Connor concerning David Thompson's race at Pigman:
So you know, David had a big lead and was set to win and set a new course record but got a flat with four miles left of the bike. He rode it in but was passed by Daniel and couldn't reel Daniel in on the run. Heather was, as expected, a total stud. The race was a ton of fun, another total success.
More words and photos about BUffalo will posy on Tuesday. Pigman coverage will appear on Friday.

Kids for a Cause Kids Triathlon in Fourth Year, Growing to Support Local, National and Global Causes
By Deb Hess
Kids for a Cause is hosting it's fourth annual kids triathlon. The kids triathlon was started by Barb and Avesh Thukral, in honor of the Thukral’s son, Julius, who was born with bilateral clubfeet and has received therapy treatment at Gillette Hospital in St. Paul and Clubfoot Solutions in Iowa City. The kids triathlon will be held on June 14 in St. Paul. Inspired by the resilience and positive attitude of her son Julius, Barb Thukral founded the kids triathlon as a way to demonstrate to children their strength and ability to make a difference, and as an expression of gratitude to those organizations, like Gillette and Clubfoot Solutions, that have helped her son Julius swim, bike, and run with his peers. ..

In a study of more than 100 married couples, low blood glucose levels were correlated with increased feelings of annoyance, anger and...

Every year I’m surprised when it’s time to start racing. In January winter feels like it will never end, especially living here in Minnesota. In January it’s always easy to list off ten things I want to accomplish, ways I’m going to train differently this season, nagging problems that I’m going to resolve once and for all – all of these things vaguely outlined and scheduled for a few weeks down the road because I have plenty of time to get started later.
Then all of a sudden, it’s time to race and I haven’t checked off half the things in my mental list, much less gotten into shape. Then I race to catch up, jam in too much in too little time, get in shape, race a lot, struggle with the same issues and before I know it September has shown up and I’m feeling pretty worn down in general.
Last season was very mediocre. My races were all very mediocre. I usually finished 1 or 2 spots out of the money and feeling like I ‘just didn’t have it.’ Training was mediocre. It was a pretty uninspiring year all told. It wasn’t terrible, just really mediocre. I finished Lifetime Chicago last August and pulled the plug on the whole year....
