ErinH_IMOO.pngIRONMAN LOUISVILLE - Maple Grove's ERIN HYNDMAN-FARRENS, a 2016 Most Improved nominee, became Minnesota's 2nd all-time fastest woman at the IM distance two days ago at Ironman Louisville, where she finished 3rd  overall in the women's race in a time of 10:02:29, which was an 11:50 improvement on her prior personal best set at Ironman Arizona in 2015. Only MICHELLE ANDRES of East Gull Lake has a faster 140.6 PR (9:50:23 - Kona '13).

Sprint for success
I can't tell you how many times I have heard triathletes say “oh, it’s just a sprint”.  The background of this statement is the assumption that the race is so short that it  A. Does not need to be trained for, B. Doesn’t really count, or C. Is somehow less of an accomplishment than another event.
 
I would like to start by getting one thing straight, just because you complete an event that is longer, does not mean you are a better triathlete than someone who completes a shorter event.  For...

2016 Most Improved: The Women...

akidd_run.pngMINNESOTA MULTISPORT AWARDS - Today we reveal the nominees or MOST IMPROVED FEMALE, which pertains to an athlete's career trajectory as it applies to their position on or near Team Minnesota.

The nominees, in alpha order, are:

 

- DIANE HANKEE, 39, Lino Lakes (2015 Rank: 8th; Best Rank: 4th in 2010 - photo below R)

Diane has enjoyed many outstanding, even breakout, seasons (2010, 2013, 2014), though none have been "outstandinger" than 2016. Though this year's Team Minnesota has not been determined, it nevertheless appears that Hankee will place in the Top 3.
