Race Preview - The 7th annual Cinco Du Mayo Long Course Duathlon (5K - 20M -5K) will happen next Saturday at beautiful Square Lake northwest of Stillwater. Contested concurrently will be the 5th edition of Cinco's Short Course (2m - 10m - 2m). Early registration pace suggests that these great events will draw a combined 300-400 participants, and we hope that you are among those who will be on hand....

Race Preview - The 30th edition of the Morris Tinman will take place next Saturday. The 1k-30k-10k event is our state's annual outdoor tri kickoff event and we hope it has a record turnout.
The race actually started 31 years ago but the 2008 edition had to be cancelled due to a 14-inch snowdump on the eve of the event. According to Weather Underground the conditions for next Saturday's race will not include snow and temps should be in the low 50s.
Last year's Tinman was won by Ryan DeYounge of Fergus Falls, and Apple Valley's Bette Rowley. Do you know them? We only know them by their race results, so in order to learn more about them, we visited their Facebook pages. We discovered that in addition to being fine athletes, they appear to be very cool people.
Bette has great taste in movies. We know this because she likes many of the same movies that the MTN Guys like. One of her faves is "Juno," which, in our opinion, was the awesomest movie of 2007....

Season Opener
We’re only a week away from the season! I’m kicking off at the Falls Duathlon. If you’re looking for a fun and low key local race to get your season started, look no further. After that it is all about the Gear West Duathlon. My best friend Steve Stenzel and I (photo L) had a pretty intense competition in the relay event last year but this year I’m racing solo. Wishing Steve the best of luck! If you don’t know Steve you should get to know him. If you see a brightly-colored speedo-clad hobbit at a race, that’s Steve. Go up and say hi. Tell him how cool he looks. Tell him he must be the most athletic hobbit in the Shire. Tell him I sent you. Gosh we’re great friends....
Rockin' New Bike Course for BOUS

Lots of exciting things are happening on Saint Paul's Phalen Corridor. A few years back The Phalen Corridor Initiative won the two top Environmental Protection Agency awards for urban redevelopment. Just last week Urban Organics, an innovative indoor aquaponics farm introduced itself to the community from its new home in the former Hamm's Brewery Building. Soon, Flat Earth Brewery will be serving up its own growlers full of suds brewed with the same "sky blue waters" gurgling up from the underground spring beneath the very same building.
All pretty cool stuff, considering that all this redevelopment is a result of collaboration between the City and over 60 other community organizations, working together.
All of which pales in comparison to the value of the Phalen Corridor's brand-spankin' new bike course for the Best of the U.S. Championship and Sprint races...

I’m kicking off the 2014 season at the Falls Duathlon again this year. I haven’t sorted out all my local races yet but I know I will be joining Final Stretch for the Falls Du at the end of April and Rochesterfest in June. Falls Du has been a fun, low key way to start the season for the last two years. I love that the first run is only two miles and that...
