YWCA INDOOR TRI #2 - RACE REPORT - I'm a little partial to indoor triathlons. After all, that is how I got in to the sport, way back in February of 2005. I entered a race called Tri U Mah, hosted by the University of Minnesota Rec Center. The event consists of a 30 minute pool swim, 30 minute stationary bike ride and 30 minute run on a treadmill. Winners are determined by the distance covered.
I remember the day of the tri was freezing cold. Warren came with me to cheer me on; my friend, Marcia Lee, volunteered for the swim portion and was my lap counter.
I remember being so nervous about the race. What would happen if I couldn't actually swim a full 30 minutes? (Being a newbie swimmer, this was a very real possibility). What would happen if I had to WALK on the treadmill? Would people laugh? Would people be able to tell that I really wasn't a triathlete, but really only a triawannabe? Would they banish me from the kingdom? Could I ever again hold my head up high while wearing tri shorts and a snazzy tri top? ...
Sometimes Acronyms Are Our Friends...

DLCCC Indoor Triathlon - Sometimes acronyms are confusing, especially for those of us who are behind the social media curve. Not all of those OMGy and LOLy acronyms are intuitive, though "WTF" certainly is.
Do you know all of the acronyms pertaining to learning disabilities and developmental and personality disorders? Neither do we.

LIFE TIME INDOOR TRI - MAPLE GROVE - This indoor event had 44 finishers and was won by 18-year-old Nick Klonne and Lara Rampetsreiter, who has a passle of kids. Nick is one of the young guys that the MMA Selectors have their collective eyes on. Though he didn't receive a Junior of the Year nomination in 2014, he came dang close to doing so. Will 2015 be his year for such recognition?
Perhaps.
We visited Nick's Facebook page and learned some cool stuff about him. He has an awesome haircut and a Phillip Phillips beard (photo L). We think he went to a prom last year, but we're not sure. He has eclectic musical taste, which includes Hip Hop, Miley Cyrus and Death Cab for Cutie. Have you heard Death Cab's CD "Something About Airplanes"? It's rather awesome.
Nick also likes war movies and watches Tosh.O on Comedy Central....

LIFE TIME WHITE BEAR LAKE INDOOR TRI - Sunday morning, January 4th, the White Bear Lake Lifetime Athletic hosted an EPIC event. Athletes swam, biked and ran their hearts out for one full hour… “POWER HOUR.” This was my first experience as an event director and needless to say, it was a learning experience to boot! But I was lucky enough to have the GREATEST bunch of athletes around and Caribou coffee, lots of it. Everyone kicked some major tail and the e-mails post-race warmed my heart. The event went off without a hitch. Athletes got from swim, bike and run with ease, all thanks to my volunteers and co-workers. We had a turnout of 30 athletes who participated, 23 women and 16 men. Let’s get some more testosterone in the mix next time guys! Our format consisted of a 10 minute swim, 10 minute transition, 30 minute bike, 5 minute transition and a 20 minute run. Our female overall winner from St.Paul Minnesota, Brigid Varley, 26, was a total rock star. She knocked out 775 yards in 10 minutes, at a pace of 1:17 per 100 yards. Can anyone say little fish?! Her bike was 10.3 miles in 30 minutes at 20.60 mph average. Finally, Brigi’s run was quite stellar at 2.82 miles completed in 20 minutes at a pace of 7:06 per mile. The other female standouts were Rhiannon...

LIFE TIME FITNESS - EAGAN INDOOR TRI - Racing a triathlon, in January, in the Arctic Circle that is Minnesota is not for the faint of heart. It is as cold as a witches tit, dark as the other side of the moon and is certainly NOT for the weak or meager. It’s a damn good thing Lifetime decided to host a series of triathlons indoors to give us crazies an opportunity to swim, bike and run without the fear of a frost bitten nipple, or other body parts….
Speaking of other body parts; Speedo’s (aka banana hammocks) were all the rage in wave 1 of the Lifetime Fitness Eagan Indoor triathlon. Myself and the usually dragging behind sidekick, Patrick Parish, took our best shot at injecting a “brief” bit of humor into this typically, very serious, race endeavor. A bit of pre-race planning, recruiting of other cohorts and a few ‘Merican dollars later, we were diving into the Minnesota indoor triathlon racing scene....

LIFE TIME FRIDLEY INDOOR TRI - Thirty-nine athletes finished this event last Sunday, with Lee Brown and Laura Geer leading the way. Brown, who's 2014 outdoor highlights included his 4th at Buzz Ryan and 5th at Brewhouse Sprint, posted solid splits throughout--28 lengths (700 yards), 25 mph bike, 6-flat mile pace for the run--en route to his victorious 116 points.
Greer finished 2nd overall and only 10 points behind Brown. We were not surprised by this, as Greer was a 2014 Rookie of the Year nominee whose impressive outdoor scorecard featured 3rds at Life Time - Trinona Sprint and Life Time - Maple Grove Sprint, and 15th at Life Time - Minneapolis, which featured what was arguably the 2nd deepest amateur women's field of the year in the US. Only Nationals attracted more female talent....
