A group ride can benefit your training and make you faster.
Though triathlon is generally a non-drafting sport, ironically some of the most fun and beneficial training we can do on the bike involves riding in a draft-friendly group. Organized group rides can be found in nearly all active communities, and may be geared toward bike racers, recreational cyclists or triathletes. As a coach, I structure my athletes’ bike training to allow ample time for solo sessions in order to prepare for the specific demands of non-drafting racing, such as time ...

ED. Yesterday this awesome interview with Rochester pro Ruth Brennan Morrey appeared on triathlon.competitor.com.
By Sarah Wassner Flynn
Long-distance breakout star Ruth Brennan Morrey certainly took a circuitous route to where she is today. First, she was a NCAA Division I soccer star. Then a semi-pro soccer player. Then an Olympic Trials qualifying marathoner. Then a PHD in psychology, a mom of three and finally a professional triathlete. Here, the 38-year-old Rochester, Minn.-native fills us in on her less-than-typical journey to the top of the sport.
Triathlete.com: Tell us about your athletic background. Did you swim or run as a kid?
Brennan Morrey: Nope, I never swam and maybe ran one track race in high school. But I’ve been playing soccer for as far back as I can remember. If I wasn’t out on the field...

Many athletes use the offseason as a chance to step away from the routine of training and enjoy some well-deserved rest. By now, they’ve had time to think about goals for the coming year and races to register for and have a renewed enthusiasm for the sport. But, it’s also important to know when to pull the reigns in and ease back into things. While many of us know what we should be doing, our overzealous nature can...

While her sister Heather was busy winning Nationals and finishing a close second in the race for the USAT AOY award last year, Lisa Lendway was rocking her best tri season ever. The former Minnesota Rookie of th Year nominee (2005) won two races and podiumed in four others, results that earned her second MMA nomination, this time for Most Improved.
If you don't already know Lisa, we're happy to report that she's an awesome person. She's got several kids and likes Macklemore, J.R. Tolkein, the food at Cheeky Monkey and the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon....

The track and field world was up in arms this weekend over an absurd scandal. Remember our scandal at Ironman Florida where the champion was nearly disqualified over a helmet sticker issue? THIS SCANDAL IS WAY JUICIER!
One of Minnesota’s ass-kicking pro runners, Gabe Grunewald, demolished the women’s 3k. She just jetted away from the field at the finish. Race won by a healthy margin. She was a national champion and headed to the indoor world championships. Cool stuff for us Minnesotans. Another reminder of how great we are relative to Wisconsin and Iowa. You heard me.
Well as you can imagine, when running at high speed on a tight little indoor track there may be jostling. And if you’ve seen the movie Days of Thunder, you know that RUBBING IS RACING (if you’re unfamiliar, take thirty seconds to get familiar by...
