* 2010 Minnesota Rookie of the Year runner-up / total stud Sam Janicki (photo) placed 19th at the Collegiate National Championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama last Saturday. Had he not been assessed a two minute penalty he would have finished 12th against a large and truly stellar field, one which included several pros and 23U Team USA athletes. RESULTS * DKT placed 8th at the Nautica South Beach Triathlon in the Thong Capitol of American (Miami, FL) yesterday. SBT kicks off the expanded 2011 Life Time Fitness Series, aka the Race to the Toyota Cup. Duluth's Jessica Rossing, 26, placed 7th in the amateur race at South Beach. RESULTS * Dan Mikkelson of Plymouth raced at Texas 70.3 yesterday. His time was 4:52:34. RESULTS * Triathlete / Realtor / totally cool person Laura Hoffman and perennial sweetheart Tracie Kent got a jump on the 2011 tri season by racing at California 70.3 in Oceanside on April 3. As ever, the field was insanely talented. Laura covered challenging course in 5:14:50, landing in 7th place in her division. A passdown is possible. Tracie placed 16th in the 35-39 division. Her time was 5:25:17. * Stud triathlete / rookie Nordic skier Brendon O'Flanagan endured a spectacular crash at The Birkie last February. Coming off a steep downhill and sharp turn at the 7K mark, BO plowed into an unavoidable pile of prostrate skiers. Brendon's Rossies shattered and he had to jog several miles in -9 degrees to an aid station where he could bum a ride back to the finish line. Through his signature smile, O'Flanagan referred to the experience as "a bummer." * Ian MacNeil (photo L), sedentary 12-year-old son of MTN Guy Jerry MacNeil, saw Battle: Los Angeles at the Woodbury 10 Theaters two weeks ago and really liked it. A world class Zombie killer--Ian is a professional XBox Live player--the youngster, who is soooooooo cool that his parents can hardly stand it, described the movie as "Beast!" * While surfing various blogsites we learned that Brian Maas has a pelvic stress fracture. Owey! You can read about it HERE. There are cool x-ray pictures that are kinda gruesome (photo above). * MTN Guy Darin Wieneke bought a new car (photo top R). Needing a soccery mommy type of vehicle since the birth of his frighteningly beautiful daughter Kaia, Darin purchased a black Toyota Rav 4. It's very cool. He traded in his moribund Beemer, which was also black. Darin likes black. * A lapsed duathlete from the east metro, who shall remain nameless, is being treated for despondency on the heels of the egregious and unconscionable elimination of Pia Toscano on American Idol. Clearly the most gifted singer in this year's competition, her early ouster shocked and angered AI judges and will be remembered as one of the most baffling and unbelievable occurrences in the ten-year history of the show.
