Daring to Tri...

mgtriMaple Grove Dare to Tri / TriStar 111 Preview - We think the name "Maik" is pronounced "Mike." Not sure, though. Maple Grove Tri co-founder/director, Lindsey Kurhajetz (pronounced "Kurr-High-etts"), who was featured in and on Triathlete Magazine's Swimsuit Issue (She was on the cover of the July issue!), thinks that the correct pronunciation is "Make." She's not sure, either.

We suspect that neither one of us is right. It's a German name and those folks talk differently than we do.

We want to pronounce the name correctly because the owner of that moniker, Maik Twelsiek, totally deserves the respect. He's one of the premier long distance triathletes in the Welt (German for "World") today and will be part of the pro field in Saturday's TriStar 111-Minnesota, an exciting European-style bike-heavy companion event to...

logoPress Release - Due to a couple unforeseen planning complications this year, Mosquitoman Duathlon is cancelled for 2011. For those of you that have already registered for the race, you will be issued a refund no later than 08/22/11. You should see the correct amount returned to your card within the next few

Let's hope that Sunday's weather is different; let's hope that it resembles the perfect racing conditions that our region's athletes enjoyed last Sunday.

The inaugural Big Pig was won by former Minnesotans Jared Berg and Christie Orris, both of whom have long ago relocated to Colorado...

Sunday Preves....

Race Previewette - It's hard to believe that the GREEN LAKE TRIATHLON is eight years old today. Whoa! It still feels new; has that new race smell, kinda like a car that's just arrived at the showroom, only sweatier.

Staged in a beautiful, bucolic setting on one of Minnesota's gorgeousest lakes and featuring a transition area whose lanes are wide enough to smoothly accommodate those big yellow dump trucks that haul dirt in and out of mines. You know, the kind with tires that are taller than Shaq. The event also features incredibly nummy post-race food. The event totally stands on its own, but if that's not enough for you, do it for the food. And the transition area....
