Local triathlon clubs are great for the triathlon community and are a wonderful way for athletes to train together. When you go to a triathlon in Minnesota, you see athletes with tri club attire from so many different clubs. Tri West Triathlon is going to highlight the many great clubs around our great state, along with hosting the first annual Minnesota Triathlon Club Championship. Between now and Tri West, there will be articles from interviews from different triathlon clubs....
Fargo-Moorhead Tri Club was started to connect triathletes in the Fargo-Moorehead area. It has evolved from a few dozen members that received occasional emails from the club founder, to several hundred members connected on our Facebook group. The focus of Fargo-Moorhead Tri Club is to be a resource for communication and support, and to welcome new triathletes to the sport. This is a non-competitive club, welcoming members of all abilities, with members' experience levels ranging from never having done a triathlon to multiple Ironman finishes. Many experienced members are eager to help new triathletes with whatever help or guidance they need.
The primary training opportunity within the Fargo-Moorhead Tri Club is their Thursday evening open-water swims at Lee Lake near Hawley, MN, which are sometimes followed by a potluck. Two club members have homes on the lake and take turns hosting the swim from their docks. Most weekends a few members will organize a ride through the steep hills around Pelican Lake near Dunvilla, MN or the rolling hills near Downer, MN. Local bike shops host rides, and local running clubs host group runs. They frequently help advertise group rides and runs from local bike shops and running clubs, which club members partake in.
One of the social highlights is their annual Season’s End Party September, where they celebrate accomplishments and get to know new members. Occasionally during the off-season, members organize a night out for food and drinks.
Fargo-Moorhead Tri Club is a completely free club with no dues, and is always accepting new members. As one of their leaders said, “We are ambassadors of our sport and welcome anyone who is interested in triathlon.” If you are interested in joining the Fargo-Moorhead Tri Club, simply search and find the “Fargo-Moorhead Triathlon Club” Facebook group, and then answer the three questions. All members of the Fargo-Moorhead Triathlon Club Facebook group can post and comment, and this is where all communication takes place.
Fargo-Moorhead Tri Club is just one of many clubs that will be competing at Tri West on Sunday, July 23rd. Find more information here: www.tinyurl.com/triwest2023
