2019 MINNESOTA MULTISPORT HONORS - Today we reveal the PERFORMANCES OF THE YEAR:
Female POY Nominees:
HANNA GRINAKER - 2nd US amateur @ Hawaii Ironman World Championships - 9:55:57
HANNA GRINAKER - Win @ Buffalo Olympic - Course Record - 2:06:57
DANI VSETECKA - Win @ Texas 70.3 - 4:23:56 (fastest women's 70.3 time in 2019)
CATHY YNDESTAD - Win--her 8th!--@ Minneapolis Olympic - Course Record - 2:05:33
WINNER - HANNA GRINAKER's 2nd US amateur @ Kona - 9:55:57
Though Hanna received all five 1st place votes here, there were strong arguments for all the performances, plus a few of Becky Youngberg's, as well. In the end, it was
Ironman's "Super Bowl" mystique that prevailed here.
Male POY Nominees:
DAN ARLANDSON - 3rd place overall at Ironman Wisconsin - 9:20:31(fastest Minnesota IM time in 2019)
SEAN COOLEY - 1st @ High Cliff Half IM - 4:07:34 (fastest 70.3 by a Minnesota male in 2019)
PATRICK PARISH - 1st @ Standard Distance Duathlon Nationals
PATRICK PARISH - 1st @ Minneapolis Olympic - 1:55:05 (ties Evan Culbert's 2017 Course Record)
WINNER: PATRICK PARISH's victory at Duathlon National Championships
Patrick garnered all the first place votes here, two for his Minneapolis performance, three for his National title, the eighth such accolade of his 10-year multisport career. It was significant that he outraced almost certain US AOY nominee Vant Lammers at Minneapolis, but even more impressive was the number of elite athletes--Ryan Giuliano, likely 2019 US DOY, Alex Arman, Lee Piercy, Dave Slavinski et al. that he outperformed at Du Nats.
With his national title, plus his win at Gear West and his 2nd (to Giuliano) at Apple, Parish deserves serious consideration for US DOY.
