The two busiest racing weekends of the season are August 10-11, which has eight events, and next weekend (July 20-21), which has five. Twenty-nine percent of the adult outdoor tris / dus staged on Minnesota soil this year are on those two weekends.
Naturally, we worry that race attendances will suffer, and we'd hate to see more events fall off the calendar. (Thirty-eight races have been cancelled between 2014 and now.)...
So, what do we recommend in this situation? We want EVERYONE to race on the two weekends in question. All of those events deserve to be supported.
So what's happening this weekend? Here are the Saturday races:
BERTRAM BLAST - This awesome event is Minnesota's only off-road multisport (tri and du) event, and it now includes a bike race. Very cool. BB is a laid-back, nature-celebrating experience that has a bit of a hippy vibe. It's one of those events that reminds you why you love this lifestyle. We give Bertram Blast our highest recommendation. WEBSITE
TURTLEMAN - Hey Twin Citizens and suburbanites, T-Man is a very cool "close-to-home" event that is staged at a spectacular Shoreview venue. It features Sprint and Olympic triathlon options. An aquabike has been added this year, too. How cool is that! T-Man also features a post-race barbecue, replete with burgers (beef or veggie), turkey dogs and watermelon. WEBSITE
MOOSE LAKE - Looking for a cool north country race? If so, consider the Moose Lake Triathlon. Last year Jason Goepfert wrote an awesome Moose Lake race report extolling its virtues. It was entitled "A Joy From Start to Finish." WEBSITE
Sunday:
HEART OF THE LAKES - See yesterday's post.
BUZZ RYAN SPRINT - The super-cool race is celebrating its 7th anniversary. Staged at majestic Island Lake north of Duluth, this event is a great "stand alone," or as a tune-up for the Brewhouse Triathlon in early August. And no race director "brings the fun" like Matt Evans. He's a HOOT!
And because both Moose Lake and Buzz Ryan are short course races, perhaps you'll consider the northland twofer? http://buzzryantriathlon.com
