LAKE WACONIA TRIATHLON PREVIEW - This event is one of the premier sprint course tris in our region. It is also one of our region's most competitive races at any distance. It deserves your participation....
Yesterday, we took a look at the LWT's AG records hoping to determine whether any of them are in jeopardy of being rewritten next Sunday. Most of the divisional marks are stout, and should stand for another year. But not all of them. Here are those records, including our comments:
19U - KYLE SERREYN - 1:27:23 (2010)
19U - LAUREN STEINKE - 1:40:20 (2016)
(These records should stand for a long time, still, we're anxious to see how close 2016 JOY nominee Allison Crum can come to Steinke's mark.)
40-44M - BRIAN BICH 1:22:39 (2010)
40-44W - JULIA WESIBECKER - 1:37:24 (2010)
(Sorry Brian and Julia, but we think your DRs are in trouble. Why? Matt Payne and Diane Hankee just turned 40. At 38, Matt popped a 1:21:21, and last year 39-year-old Hankee threw down a 1:31:42.)
45-49M - KEVIN O'CONNOR - 1:22:06 (2016) – MR
45-49W - HEIDI KELLER-MILER - 1:35:54 (2011) - MR
(Can KO match his 1:22:06. Tall order. We hope so. As for HKM's mark, it should stand until someone like Hankee turns 45.)
50-54M - TONY SCHILLER - 1:28:05 (2011)
50-54W - CHERYL ZITUR - 1:35:54 (2016)
(These marks should endure for another year, unless Cheryl decides to register. The list we studied did not have her on it.)
55-59M - TONY SCHILLER - 1:27:23 (2015)
55-59W - PAM STEVENS - 1:47:20 (2010)
(These records should stand for another year, unless Jan Guenther decides to register.)
60-64M - BEN EWERS - 1:39:31 (2010)
60-64W - PAM STEVENS - 1:52:44 (2013)
(Ben's mark should stand for one more year, then Tony will take it down in 2018. Can Pam break her own record? Sure.)
65-69M - BEN EWERS - 1:42:11 (2012)
65-69W - MARSHA SOUCHERAY - 2:13:54 (2007)
(Ben's mark should endure another year, but Marsha's is going down, courtesy of Deb Roberts.)
70-74M - HANK LARSEN - 1:57:10 (2010)
75-79M - LOU HARRIS - 2:17:48 (2010)
(Hank's 70-74 mark should be safe, but if Hank, who is now over 75, registers, Lou's mark will most likely fall.)
Have you signed up for this annual classic? If not, there's still time. Do yourself a favor, and the race, too, and register for the 28th Lake Waconia Triathlon. RACE WEBSITE
