More Love For King B....

Web_banner__Winter.png

Our fingers are crossed. According to Weather.com, St. Paul could get 3-5 inches of snow today. And maybe some more tomorrow. That would be awesome for the 100-or- so (currently more than 82 athletes have signed up for the race) people who will be taking part in Sunday's King Boreas Winter Triathlon at Lake Phalen. This event, as in 2015, is the USAT Winter Tri National Championship....

But even if the snow doesn't come, the event should still be great. Organizers have a Plan B, which is a run-bike-run option. Sure, it would be a shame if the ski segment was cancelled, but a glance at the current enrollment list reveals that most attendees have serious summer multisport credibility. This race is going to be great.

Here are some of the talented athletes who will be participating:

- JAN GUENTHER - 2015 King B women's champ. Jan is Minnesota's all-time most decorated female multisport athlete. She is also a world class AG nordic skier.

- JOEL LAFRANCE - Last year's men's champ. Joel was nominated for Minnesota Mulisport Rookie of the Year in 2015.

- JASON TOTH - New York transplant, Jason won three of the four Minnesota multis he did last season.

- ANDREA TREMAINE - Multisport Rookie of the Year nominee in 2015, Andrea has a "thing" for T-Rexes.

- SUZANN MOUW - Former National Triathlon Champion. She co-directs the awesome Chequamegon Fat Tire Triathlon.

- LINDSEY MARSHALL - Decorated multisporter and nordic skier, she finished 3rd recently at the Rennet Festival (26K skate).

- TARA MAKINEN - Since 2013, Tara has won half of the dozen multis she's raced in. Her hubby, Philip Imholte, like herself, is also an accomplished skier and multisporter.

- ANNE GRABOWSKI - A Top 10 finisher here last season, Anne has established herself in the last four years as one of our region's most successful multisport masters.

- JUSTIN  CUMMINS - A multisport newcomer in 2015, Justin may emerge as a star in 2016. He's well-coached and dedicated. He was 8th here last year.

- CHRISTINA ROSS - A Top 5er here in '15, Christina rocks on the fat bike.

Other fast folks whose names caught our attention include: NATE SANDERS, KAREN BEBCHUK, SHERI SCHROCK, HELEN GUNTHER, JESS DEEGAN. KIERANN TOTH, BRIAN GLAESER, MIKE LADENDORF, ALISON FORNEY-GORMAN.

Also, we'd be surprised, especially if the snow comes, if the likes of SEAN COOLEY (2nd here in 2015), HANNA GRINAKER (Minnesota 2015 Triathlete of the Year), CHRISTINA ROBERTS (4th in 2015), JORDAN ROBY (5th in 2015) and JEANNE FLECK (3rd in 2015) didn't show up.

As we said in a prior post, the King B Winter Tri is a "comraderific" experience and a bona fide HOOT! We hope you do it.
