Trinona is going back to its independent roots.
Ownership of the self-proclaimed “World’s Biggest Little Triathlon” now belongs to the original event founders, Winona native Dave Schutz and his wife, Amanda.
Life Time had owned and produced the Trinona Triathlon since 2011 and will continue to be a sponsor while also supporting the event via its Chronotrack registration and timing platform.
“We are incredibly excited to work once again with all the amazing volunteers, businesses and organizations, which have made this event so charming and grassroots oriented,” Schutz said in a press release. “We look forward to making this a Winona showcase like never before.” ...
Schutz founded the event in 2009 and served as the race director following the Life Time acquisition.
Life Time has switched its focus to larger races and “premier experiences” across the United States, according to the press release.
The 2017 Trinona weekend will be held June 10-11 and features a kids triathlon and a sprint and international distance triathlons. The international triathlon features one of Bicycling Magazine’s “Top 100 Climbs in the U.S.” and has attracted athletes from across North America. Trinona has twice been named Minnesota’s Multisport “Race of the Year.”
Schutz is a 1995 Winona Senior High School graduate and now lives in Minnetonka.
