(ABC 6 NEWS) - Ruth Brennan Morrey is a Rochester native who has been a professional Ironman triathlete for three years. She is just days away from the toughest race of her life against the best athletes in the world, never once placing preparation in front of her faith or family....

Before the sun even comes up… Ruth Brennan Morrey is training . Not only as a world-class Ironman Triathlete, but as a wife and mother of three.

“I get up at 5am in order to be home before they even wake up,” said Ruth. “I love when that happens when they’re just rubbing their eyes and they have no idea that mom just put in an hour and a half in the pool. It’s the greatest feeling.”

Ruth is training for the biggest and most challenging race of her life.

“It’s the best race, worst conditions,” said Ruth.

The IronMan World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.

“It is definitely going to be a grueling race,” said Ruth. “It is a race that needs to be respected in every sense of the word. It has to be feared really.”
It starts off with a 2.4-mile roughwater ocean swim.

“It’s unpredictable what the current will be like, water conditions will be like,” said Ruth. “It’s always a tough swim.” READ MORE
