16th & 15th SQUARE LAKE TRIATHLONS - The 16th annual Square Lake Short Course Triathlon will take place at picturesque Square Lake next Saturday. The 15th edition of the Square Lake Long Course (almost half IM) will happen at the same wonderful venue on Sunday.
We've looked at early reg. lists and aren't ready to predict winners in the LC event, though we do expect to see a podium finish for WADE CRUSER, who is enjoying a breakout season and is one of the many guys that are being considered for a Most Improved nomination....
In the short course race, which we believe will be using the same courses as in 2014, we are very ready to make some predictions. (It's kinda like voting, where the winner is called when 2% of the votes are in.)
Yes, we have clear choices for the winners. For the women, rookie pro HEATHER LENDWAY should dominate once again. Heck, she beat EVERYBODY here last year. But she won't do that this time around. Why? Because long-time pro DAVID THOMPSON will be making his Square Lake debut, and a win will be the historic 100th of his career. So cool!
So, will HL finish 2nd overall? It's possible. But she'll have to beat wo-time Triathlete of the Year nominee BROOKS GROSSINGER to do it. We think the overall podium will look like this: 1. DKT (1:18ish), 2, Brooks (1:22ish), 3. Heather (1:24ish).
We're anxious to see if Heather will break her insane 2015 course record (1:25:11).
Who will join Brooks in the amateur Winner's Circle? Our clear choice here is DIANE HANKEE, who was victorious last Saturday at St. Croix Valley Sprint.
Can you still get in? Yes. Race day sign-up will be available. RACE WEBSITE
