RACE PREVIEW - The MTN Guys love the Manitou Sprint Triathlon. We've loved it for 23 years. We loved it since Mo and Suzann (Mouw) started it and loved it when the local YMCA produced it. We loved it when Randy Fulton directed it, and ...
when Michelle Carlson directed it, and when Coach Kris and OptumHealth Performance was in charge.
The event is now owned and managed by Frontrunner USA, and, once again, Uncle Randy (Fulton) is at the helm.
We peeked at the start list and decided to make some predictions about Sunday's event.
- Christel Kippenhan will win the masters title and finish in the women's overall Top 3! Being from Germany, she has an authentic German accent and will be the only one in the field to have eaten Schnitzelgruben.
- Chris Hawes (photo R) will race. And he'll still be cranially hairless. Head shaving makes this amiable gentleman faster and it also means that if he gets road rash on his head, the wound will heal more quickly.
- Philip English might win the first race of his multisport career. We're rooting for him.
- Michel Sanders (photo above) will smile constantly, which is a good and beautiful thing.
- Dave Dow will win his division. He's got a PH.d in scientific stuff and likes to be called "Doctor." Keep that in mind when you congratulate him on his awesome performance after the race.
- Steve Paladie with say pithy stuff, which is why his nickname in college was "Pithy Paladie."
- Race Director Randy Fulton will spread joy (nobody's immune!) and wear shorts even if it's cold.
