Croixathlon VII Preview - Between 2006 and 2011, Sara Zimmermann-White, for whom it is difficult to fit her entire name on applications and credit card slips, didn't do any tris. She was busy making babies. Luke and Lucy. They're so dang cute!
Since most of Minnesota's multisport practitioners adopted the lifestyle after '06, few remember how talented Sara, a chronic smiler, was. Those who do remember her might recall that she has been a member of Team Minnesota on more than one occasion and that she was no stranger to the podium. Heck, she has even won a few races along the way, like Brewhouse back in 2000....
We think that Sarah, who had two Top 3 finishes in 2011, is ready to win again. She is our pick to take the women's title at the 7th annual Croixathlon in Hudson on Saturday.
Who do we think will join Sara in the Winners Circle at Camp St. Croix this weekend? Defending champion David Holden is our guy. The 2011 Minnesota Master of the Year nominee is racing like a banshee this season. He was a decisive winner at Liberty Olympic and set a masters record at Buffalo in a 6th place (4th amateur) finish.
Yes, we believe he will be pushed by two-time Croixathlon champ, Dan Cohen, who is very muscular. Dan has raced sparingly over the last three seasons, doing only his absolute fave events, like Timberman, Waseca and favoritest of all, Croixathlon. He has yet to race this year, his life dominated by professional stuff, like coaching and professoring. Besides, his main motivation for doing Croixathlon is the post-race Wing Fest at Barker's in downtown Hudson. Dan likes 'em hot. The hotter the better. It's really cool to watch him sweat as he hoovers a few dozen bird arms. There's a medical name for his profuse brand of perspiratory activity: Habenero Diaphoresis.
Croix's courses have been redesigned by an unmedicated guy from the Wild River Tri Club and will be more challenging than ever. Add that to the fact that this year's event will have a Jack Sparrowy kind of theme, meaning that Amy and Gretchen will dress funny, use too much mascara and say "Arrrgh" a lot. These girls are total HOOTS!
And so is Croixathlon! Races don't get more fun than this. And you can still sign up. We hope you do. RACE WEBSITE
