Weekend News Stuff...Updated...

logoYoung Life Triathlon - Becky Youngberg recorded her 7th victory of the 2011 season on Saturday in Detroit Lakes at the 5th annual Young Life Olympic Triathlon. 2010 winner Christina Roberts was runner-up and Christel Kippenhan, who is from Germany, which explains why she has a really cool German accent, took 3rd. Grand Forks, ND's Sean Cooley, who crushed the men's course record at Paul Bunyan (Long Course) a few weeks back, won the men's race. Aberdeen SD's Kevin Bjerke and Luke Nelson of Ramsey, rounded out the Top 3.

The companion Sprint, which celebrated it's 8th birthday yesterday, was won by Grand Rapidsian, Tara Makinen, and Fargonian Tyler Zima. RESULTS

logoLakeville at the inaugural Lake Marion Olympic Triathlon. CY's 2:14:12 landed her in 5th place overall. Ann Snuggerud placed 2nd, her 4th podium finish of the season, and Susan Griffee, who was 9th last weekend at the YWCA Women's Tri, finished 3rd.

In spite of missing a turn which added 3Kish to the bike portion, Josh Blankenheim prevailed in the men's Olympic contest. He finished 32 seconds in front of three-time Minnesota Junior of the Year nominee and totally nice kid, Kyle Serreyn. Mike Ladendorf, who was 7th at Chisago Sprint on July 24, grabbed 3rd.

The 4th annual Lake Marion Sprint was won by Greg Dummer, pronounced "Doomer," and the toothy Jen Neuman, who has a beautiful smile and isn't afraid to use it.

The LMT is a truly cool event. We strongly suggest that you enroll in a future edition of this race. RESULTS

dianaPIGMAN HALF - We got a voicemail from Alex Hooke a little while ago. He was really excited. Apparently the 13th annual Pigman Half was an amazing event and featured more great performances by Minnesotans than you can shake a stick at.

Who really shakes sticks at stuff?

We digress.

And it all started with DKT nuking his own course record. He popped a 3:53. Whoa! And Kevin O'Connor, Kortney Haag, Ruth Brennan Morrey, Sam Janicki, Diana Koepp (photo L) and Alex, himself, plus many others, turned rockin' efforts. He didn't have exact times, so stay tuned. We'll post a results link and lots more words when we know more.

UPDATE: RESULTS

ST. PAUL SPRINT - Hairy-legged Ross Weinzierl and smooth-legged Tina Welzien post their first career tri victories at Lake Phalen this morning. How cool is that!
