Beth Lacanne is a Very Very Nice Person and Other Weekend Stuff...

logoNewsy Notesy Stuff - MTN congratulates St. Paul pro, David Thompson, and Circle Pines amateur, Patrick Parish on their podium performances this morning at the Washington DC Triathlon, a 5150 Series member event. DKT's 3rd here is arguably his best effort of the year thus far.

We'll have to ask him.

Incidently, the men's winner was Aussie, Paul Matthews.

Parish's 2nd place overall amateur effort (1:57:39) behind 2009 US Athlete of the Year, Brian Duffy of Pennsylvania, may be his best performance thus far in 2011....

We'll have to ask him, too. RACE RESULTS

ann* MTN also congratulates Rochester's Ann Moyer (tiny photo L) on her 8th place finish at yesterday's High Cliff Half IM in northeastern Wisconsin. Her time was 5:10:53.

In case you don't know, Ann is a very smart doctor. She's a first-year resident at a hospital in Rochester.

* Claire Bootsma appeared to be on pace to win her 3rd consecutive triathlon this morning. She flatted while leading the 4th annual RochesterFest Olympic and thanks for fellow triathlete Beth Lacanne (cool Facebook photo R), who stopped and helped her fix her bike, Claire was able to charge on to a 2nd place overall finish in a circumstantially remarkable 2:20:23.

Here at MTN, we love these stories of athletic altriusm. By the way, Beth's favorite athlete is Twin's slugger Justin Morneau and she owns several Keith Urban CDs. We thought you'd like to know.

ruthThe winner of the women's Olympic contest was Ruth Brennan Morrey, whose story is also remarkable. An elite distance runner, Ruth had only done one prior triathlon. This was her 1.5K-40K-10K debut, which she capped with a 37 minute run, and it produced a groovy 2:18:03.

When asked if she had fun, Ruth exuberantly, though succinctly, replied, "Yeah!" FYI, Ruth also looks great in big hats and her husband looks great in blue shirts (photo L).

Team Minnesota's Diane Hankee, who wore a lovely floral summer dress to the awards presentation, rounded out the women's podium. Gosh, she cleans up good after a race.

sam* RochesterFest Olympic men's favorite Daniel Hedgecock lived up to his billing yet again. His victory was his fifth straight of the season. His time of 1:56:04 put him 1:23 in front of 2nd placing Alex Hooke. The final podium spot went to Sam Janicki, who wore a heartrate monitor and kept his BPMs within the range that he plans to maintain during his long course debut next month at Racine 70.3.

Sam (photo L) and his girlfriend recently broke up. We thought some of the single female triathletes between the ages of 18 and 60 (Sam is 25) would like to know.

Normally we would have posted a pic of Dan Hedgecock here. We ran a shot of Sam instead so his potential future girlfriends could see what he looks like.

* Joanna Hall didn't hurl after her gut-busting 400m all-out sprint with decorated Alaskan triathlete, Lori Deschamps.

But she sure felt like she would. She was glad she didn't eat anything before the race.

Yup, this year's RochesterFest Sprint's women's race was decided the abovementioned death dash. Joanna came out on top in the end. Her time--55:51--blew away her 2010 race record by 1:42. Deschamps, who was 5th at Escape From Alcatraz earlier this season, finished three seconds back. Two time Tri Minnesota Series women's champ, Brooke Larsen, took third in 1:59:00. For Hall, it was here 3rd consecutive RST victory.

Did you read Micah Turman's great Take the Hill race report last month. If you didn't, link HERE. In that story, Micah diplomatically described his race, wherein riding off course cost him the victory. Today the new daddy (Micah and Abbe's beautiful new daughter is 12 days old!) pulverized the men's sprint record. The old mark was 54:09. Turman's time today was an awesome 51:31.

Second and third respectively were claimed by two-time RST winner Jesse Nelson (52:18) and Matt Priess (53:58), whose hot girlfriend, Justine, enjoyed a successful tri debut, finishing 8th (of 23) in her division.
