The 2019 Pigman Sprint Triathlon took place on June 2nd, 2019 at Pleasant Creek State Park, situated 12 miles from the heart of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The inaugural race featured a packed Elite Men and Women’s field, the Iowa Age Group and High School State Championships, and served as the second race in the MWCTC 2019 Summer Racing Season....
The Minnesota Triathlon Team sent three members: Nikolas Pardoe, Team President Sophie Rabino, and Miguel Anselmo, all three rising seniors!
The race gun for the Collegiate Wave went off around 7:45 am and featured a 0.5km swim first. Nik, Sophie, and Miguel each exited the water within a minute of each other, and although Nik forgot his wetsuit he still turned in a speedy swim time.
On the moderately hilly 15.5 mile bike course, Nik fought his way to third position, while Miguel entered T2 around 2 minutes down from Nik. Sophie’s position as the first collegiate female athlete grew as she powered up the final hill into T2.
On the 5km run, Nik and Miguel fought to improve their position, but crossed the finish line in the same position they started in, 3rd and 4th, respectively. While the whole car ride down to Iowa Sophie stated that her run would be really slow, she blew away the competition and crossed the finish line as the first collegiate female athlete. All three racing members came away with a podium spot, as the awards ran five deep.
Following an incredibly successful showing, Nik, Sophie, and Miguel stopped at McDonalds multiple times on the drive back to Minneapolis, on an everlasting quest for post-race hashbrowns! RESULTS
