funny conversation taking place between Nick Madrinch and Dan Hedgecok before the race, evidently Nick had forgotten his wetsuit in the car and deducted that he would, "stick with the skin suit, it is too far to walk back to the car to get the wetsuit". Well, he covered the swimming course in 10:33, the fastest swim of the day. On the "girls" side, was a sixteen year old named Erin Kleiner, she swam the 1/2 mile course in 12:24, I really hope she is one of Phil and Chuck's MN Storm swimmers, this is a very impressive split.

The rest of the race was dominated by the winners Cathy Lee and Sam Janicki. Cathy's bike and run splits were amazing, especially considering she raced and placed 2nd at Turtleman the day before. I came out of the water slightly ahead of her, but by the time I got my bike shoes on, she out of my sight. Sam too was impressive. I first saw him at my home pool in Alexandria during the awards. I remember thinking, that guy is a very tall and lean dude. Well, he is both those two things and additionally is amazingly fast. Race director Chuck Smith stated it was really fun to watch Sam and runner-up Dan Hedgecock race. Sam had nearly a three minutes lead going into the run he won by 1:26, Dan can run, there is no doubt! It was also great to see Pam Zachman again, I haven
