ANOTHER TOP 5! - 2015 US Elite Rookie of the Year, HEATHER LENDWAY, continues to impress. Yesterday, the St. Paul resident placed 4th at Buenos Aires 70.3. Her time was 4:24:06 and featured the fastest women's swim split and the third fastest bike.
The women's race was won in breakout fashion by second-year British pro, Kimberley Morrison, who was the overall female European amatuer champion in 2014. Keeping HL off the podium was sneaky come-from-behind bronze medalist Ariane Monticeli of Sao Paulo, Brazil, who, like Morrison, turned in her best professional effort to date. Monticeli's run split (1:22) was almost seven minutes faster than her gender's next best split. ...
Heather should be blogging about her Brazilian experience soon. MTN will repost her race report. RESULTS
BREAK DANCER WINS TRIATHLON - Tri-U-Mah, Minnesota's largest, longest and most competitive indoor triathlon, was staged at The U on February 28. Leading the way in the 212-finisher field was reigning Life Time Tri - Minneapolis Sprint champ MICHAEL WEISSENBORN, and world-class break dancer (no kidding!) HELEN LIN (photo R).
The ninty minute event was broken into three 30-minute segments and athletes were ranked according to total distance covered. Weissenborn covered 23.05 miles, beating runner-up ROSS PIEPER, who happens to be Helen Lin's boyfriend and owns a selfie stick and isn't afraid to use it, by .86 of a mile.
The race between Lin and 2nd-placing woman JESSICA DEEGAN, an accomplished triathlete and super nice person, was much closer. Only .01/mile separted them. How much distance are we talking about here? 53 feet. RESULTS
