LONDON — Gwen Jorgensen remains on track to defend her 2014 ITU World Championship title, picking up her 10th straight win in the ITU World Triathlon Series and leading a U.S. podium sweep for the second time this season.
Jorgensen (St. Paul, Minn.) used her signature run speed to claim victory in 55 minutes, 45 seconds on the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer run course. Jorgensen now owns 13 WTS titles, and she has won every WTS race she has started since May 2014. Jorgensen retains the No. 1 ranking in the Columbia Threadneedle ITU World Triathlon Series Rankings with 4,000 points....
Katie Zaferes (Hampstead, Md.) also maintains her No. 2 world ranking, finishing second in 56:06. Zaferes has earned a medal in each of the five WTS races she has started in 2015. Sarah True (Hanover, N.H.) rounded out the U.S. podium sweep, taking third place in 56:07. This is the second year in a row True has finished on the podium in London. With Jorgensen, Zaferes and True as part of a podium sweep for the second time in 2015, the U.S. becomes the only nation to sweep the podium twice in one season.
Jorgensen, Zaferes and True were part of the lead group from start to finish. The trio came out of the water out in front of the field with four other competitors, including Spain’s Carolina Routier and Margit Vanek of Hungary. Throughout the 20k bike course, the seven women in the lead pack maintained a gap of 30 seconds to the chase group. Once out on the run, the Americans broke away and secured their podium sweep, with Jorgensen posting the fastest run split by more than 20 seconds. READ MORE
