Jorgensen is World Champ! And Other Stuff...

Triathlon.org - American GWEN JORGENSEN (St. Paul, Minn.) today claimed a slice of history in winning the 2014 ITU World Championship Grand Final in a trademark come from behind performance. Jorgensen moved into triathlon royalty securing an unprecedented five WTS wins this season, joining just Alistair Brownlee as the only other athlete to have won five titles in one season.
Jorgensen’s win today also secured her the overall ITU World Championship final winning in a time of two hours and 5 seconds, finishing 16 seconds ahead of New Zealand’s Andrea Hewitt (NZL). Hewitt’s second place secured her third in the overall standings. Nicky Samuels (NZL) finished a brilliant third in an event that saw some of the pre race contenders struggle.

“I don’t think it’s really sunk in at all, I just want to thank everyone that has helped me so much, Patrick, Jaime (Turner). Sarah Haskings was huge today. I’m really happy,” said Jorgensen.....

Jorgensen again had to draw on her lethal weapon run speed to make up another big deficit but had some help from teammate Sarah Haskins (USA) on the bike. READ MORE

ITU EDMONTON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - Last Wednesday, Lino Lakes' DIANE HANKEE finished 7th in her 35-39W AG in the Aquathon World Champs. On Friday she placed 20th overall and earned the bronze medal in her division in the Sprint Course World Chamionship. On Monday, she'll race in the Main Event, the Olympic Distance WCs.

1st Annual HOPKINS ROYAL TRIATHLON - ERIC HENDRICKSON (photo L) and SARAH MERCER lived up to their pre-race fave status with victories at Shady Oak Park this morning. It was Hendrickson's 2nd win in five starts this season. Two hundred and nine tri vets and almost 80 newbies crossed the finish line. RESULTS

14 Annual ST. CROIX VALLEY TRIATHLON - BRETT LOVAAS chalked up his 29th career multisport win in Hudson, Wisconsin this morning at the 12th edition of the St. Croix Valley Olympic Triathlon. The women's winner was SARAH FOLEY, who now has 12 career tri victories.

In the 14-year-old SCV Sprint, three-time runner-up JIM FELLING came out on top for the men. Prolific racer MITCHELL CLAYTON, 17, placed 2nd, more than eight minutes faster than his 2013 clocking on this course. Being a year older and the fact that his girlfriend was on the sidelines probably explain his dramatic improvement.

2006 Minnesota Rookie of the Year MARTA LEWINSKI, who is a total sweetie pie, won for the women. RESULTS
