Ironman Los Cabos Race Report - IMs are such a blur of little moments you recall and slowly piece together, yesterday was a HOT, sweaty, and beautiful blur of memories, here are a few to share...

I loved hearing "Vamos Chica, Bueno Chica, and Vamos Vamos Vamos" yelled at me all day.

There was a language/product barrier with the sweet woman who was my T1 helper and she smeared a 1/4 of my container... of chamois butt'r on my shoulders and back thinking it was sunscreen before I could stop her.

The bike course was gorgeous, hilly, and very hot. There are beautiful mountains in Cabo, it was almost all dessert on the ride with no shade but had spectacular views of the ocean, palm trees and cactus from the climbs. I finished the bike going back and forth with former Minnesotan Shelley Nelson, so wonderful to see her! The ride ended with a fast downhill over 3 mexican-rocks.gifmasive speedbumps. I was super scared but had just retaken the lead and didn't want to crash us and couldn't slow down. I took them at full speed and went airborne on the first 2 and did a wheely on the last one.

The run was roasting but I took what I learned the hard way from my body overheating and shutting down at Kona and was determined to have a better marathon in Cabo. It was 3 loops with a ton of little out and backs so I got to see the other MN racers a whole bunch.

Before the race I learned how to say water, ice, etc in Spanish and thank the volunteers at the aid stations in thier language, I didn't use any English.

Poor Brendon threw up 17 times starting on the bike but he still finished! I couldn't be more proud of him, one race never defines us. We passed our house 9 times on the course and he never took the easy way out and is now an Ironman!

I sat in an ice bath with 3 dudes from Mexico and a guy from San Diego and told them all about training through the winter we've had in MN. Their jaws dropped and they were very amused that I did my longest run in -22 and couldn't believe I finished an IM in Mexico.

ED. FYI - Suzie was 6th amateur woman, 2nd 30-34W. Her time was 10:40:35.
