Royal Treatment, Sinn-ing in Pine Island & Ruther Rocks Provence...

batgirlsIRON GIRL - BLOOMINGTON VIII - The 8th annual Iron Girl Du, where all participants are treated like royalty, happened last Sunday at Normandale Lake Park. Dedicated duathlete Jennifer Scudiero of Eagan capped her awesome podium-filled 2012 season with her awesomest effort yet, a convincing victory that is her second career W. She also won this year's Dubuque Du.

Second place went to Lakeville's Joyce Bourassa, whose '12 resume also features a pair of wins--Lakefront Days and Lake Marion Sprint. Joyce and her much taller friend sometimes dresses up in leather Batman outfits (photo), which is kinda...

kinky. Third place was earned by Fall Classic champ, Angela Kidd. RESULTS

TREADMAN DU VII - La Crosse's Brent Sinn collected his 4th TMD win in chilly Pine Island last Saturday, leading the way for 145 eventual finishers. He covered the 3.3 - 21.6 - 3.3. route in 1:34:37, which gave him a 2:16 breather before runner-up John Heinlein made is position official. Heinlein has placed 2nd in his last five races. francePossible Master of the Year candidate, John Shelp, anchored the men's podium.

Winning for the girls was Jenny Thacker, who was coming off a bronze medal effort at Fall Classic the week before. Jackie Thompson and Carolyn Franzone, both Rochesterarians, took 2nd and 3rd, respectively. RESULTS

RUTHER ROCKS PROVENCE - Rochester's phenomenal Ruth Brennan Morrey, who doesn't hyphenate her last name, is living in Europe right now and plans to hang out there for many months to come. Last weekend she went to the "South of France," which is what most European travelers call southern France, to do a 70.3 Series event. The race, which featured a bike course that made Rev 3-Wisconsin Dells' seem road-kill flat by comparison, was staged in the town of Pays D-Aix, which only the locals can correctly pronounce.

pattiRuther, arguably America's premier amateur female half IMer, totally kicked Euro Ass last Sunday, crushing the amateur field and finishing 6th overall (4:44:37). Only pro winner Mary Beth Ellis, a long distance superstar, outran RBM, albeit only by one second (1:21:11 to 1:21:12!). How freaking cool is that!

Ruth promises to send a race report, which MTN will post next week. RESULTS

ED. Tuesday is usually "E-Blast Day," wherein we send out a e-newsletter featuring three new stories to 9900 subscribers. We've been traveling and are too tired and backlogged to make that happen this week. Sorry. FYI, tomorrow we will post more words about the Minnesota magic that happened in Bend, Oregon last weekend. And in case you didn't know already, Patti Schmidt Iverson (photo L) and Merilee Sander totally smoked their respective AGs in the Leadman Epic-125, which is seven miles longer than a 70.3.

Patti, who is much too modest when she speaks of her multisport prowess, rocked a 6th place overall finish!
