Body Map...

By Nikki Dostert Sudberry (from Facebook)

Have you ever thought of your body as a map? I have.

I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to be aesthetically pleasing; it’s hard not to.

But that’s being realistic in a world that can change your “map” .....let’s think about that.

The picture on the left shows a proud woman who has just completed 3 marathons and two 70.3 triathlons. I’m feeling fit; I’m happy.

The picture on the right is during a race a few years later. I will take 3rd overall and 1st on the bike....

I was heavier on the left BUT my map still shows the skin where it once loved my larger thighs. The same legs that carried my once 191 lbs body to a podium.
Today, my stomach and breasts prove I’ve carried and fed two humans that I love more than air.

The wrinkles around my eyes prove I laugh hard but cry as the days needed it.
The line between my eyes show that I would concentrate while suturing a chest after a cardiology procedure for patients that were worried about a scar.
My cavities in my mouth are a reminder of how my parents struggled without healthcare and insurance but did the best they could.

My skin is freckled because of all of the amazing times in the sun; so much that cancer has been removed to the point of stitches from my lack of sunscreen.

The purple marks on my knees show that I fall (a lot) but I get back on that bike.

I’m proud of me and my map. It shows I’ve lived. For almost 40 years on earth I can say that I’ve had a pretty good ride.

Be proud of where you’ve been. We only get this journey once, if we erase what has been, it might be a crime to ourselves.
