MINNESOTA MULTISPORT HONORS - Here are the official nominees for female TRIATHLETE OF THE YEAR, and their tri highlights:
GABY BUNTEN, 27, St. Paul
- 1st @ St. Anthony's (FL)
- 2nd @ Ironman Madison 70.3 (4:46:48)
- 5th @ USAT Olympic Nationals
- 5th @ USAT Sprint Nationals
- 10th / 4th US @ ITU Worlds (Lausanne, CHE)
COMMENT: Gaby didn't race locally last season, opting instead to make a name for herself on the national and international stages. Great results against top level competition....
HANNA GRINAKER, 31, St. Paul

- 1st @ Ironman 70.3 Canada - 4:38
- 13th amateur / 2nd US @ Hawaiian Ironman World Championships - 9:55:58
COMMENT: Hanna also won an aquabike last season, though the Committee doesn't know how to evaluate that performance. Despite her lack of racing volume, all three of her triathlon results were Performance of the Year-nomination worthy.
CATHY YNDESTAD, 40, Mendota Heights
- 1st @ Cactus Sprint (AZ)
- 1st @ Graniteman Clearwater Olympic - Course Recoord
- 1st @ Minneapolis Olympic - 2:05:33 - Course Record
- 4th @ Ironman 70.3 Victoria (BC) - 4:45
- 14th amateur @ Nice (FL) 70.3 World Championships
COMMENT: So good to have CY back on the Minnesota scene. Our state's most decorated female triathlete ever, Cathy certainly lived up to her reputation n 2019.
