This year I was honored to be on the selection committee for the Minnesota Multi-sport Awards (MMA's). Minnesota has a rich talent pool in triathlon and duathlon and it was great to see so many deserving athletes recognized by their peers for hard work and excellent racing. The awards night was held at Gear West, where the highlight was WWII and Korean War veteran, Navy Cross recipient and 90-94 age-group triathlete, Bob Powers giving an amazing talk and reminding us all of what true heroism, work, discipline, teamwork and courage really involve. Team Minnesota was announced, which is the top 10 male and female amateur...

triathletes in ranked order (not an easy job and not a perfect science) It was motivating to be surrounded by the state's best, of which whom many are my friends.

That same Sunday, another friend of mine, Ted Treise, was racing in Miami at the USAT Long Course National Championships (70.3). Ted and I swim together and I was keen to see how he would do. He recently moved to Rochester from Wisconsin (a sure sign of intelligence and class). Ted is 22 and he is my dark horse pick for Team Minnesota in 2017 and possibly Most Improved athlete.  He will have to have a huge year to oust one of ten elite athletes on this year's list, but his trajectory is heading that way. Please introduce yourself to Ted when you see him next season, he is a heck of a nice guy and has a passion for the sport that will enable him to fit right in. Here is Ted's race report from last Sunday in Miami, which was only his second 70.3.

I have been participating in triathlon since 2012.  I decided to take it up a notch to the long course and my first attempt was Legends in June 2016. That race when very well for me and I had high hopes for a solid result at the USAT Long Course National Championship in Miami, last Sunday,  November 13, 2016. I wrote on my mirror to “Win nationals” with a check box, told my Mom and Dad of my goals, and put my head down for 5 months.
