ED. Last week we got a couple of emails from triathlete/bodybuilder Walt Johnson, who is in his 60s and races in a Speedo. While this is to be discouraged for most sixty-genarians, Walt is an exception to the rule because he is a total stud, and a very, very cool guy.
Here are his minimally edited emails and some great photos:
Hi Jerry - I thought about your great joking around at triathlons . It sure is a hoot hearing my name called describing speedo swim suit . Here is a few pictures: 1 - of bodybuilding final 2000 Mr. Minnesota ( I didn't win overall but did have 1st place super heavyweight division 98,99,2000. Finished bodybuilding last contest 2014, won 10 division 1st place trophies over many years . Rochester tri 2010 run between 2 laps of lake . A few other fun pictures near Mississippi river . Have had shoulder surgery both sides , back problems, leg DVT recently. No triathlons as a result . Last good season was 2010 placed several times . Hope your doing well . Walt Johnson
And:
It sure was a great laugh watching triathletes faces as you described the 6'-7" guy in a speedo. ...The crowd used to look right at me . I'd say who is he talking about to other athletes . Triathlon really is a silent sport . You do a fine job pumping up crowd of athletes, bystanders, officials . A couple triathlon races I would have placed if in a tri suit . Takes me too long in T1 T2 changing. Hard to make up time athletically lost in transitions . Where else can a 62 year old guy run around near nude and not be arrested? Hope to tri again in future . I've been searching for Old Millwaukee beer at several liquor stores . It seems only sold at a few places in bottled cases . Store owners say it was grandpas beer no longer wanted much . Will likely settle for another brand . I plan on bringing 2 cans beer and 2 cigars with matches . We then can light up smokes and shake up beer up cans . We will toast our dads' generation favorite way to pass time at finish line .... Thanks Walt
ED. We we unable to open a few of the files that Walt sent. We would have loved to post those shots. And in case you didn't know, Duluth triathlete Tiffany Kari is also a bodybuilder. He hope to profile her this winter.
