According to his decorated dad, NATHAN BICH has the potential to be an outstanding triathlete, even better than his Old Man. Heck, if he's motivated, he might even get a pro license some day.
Nathan, 17 last year, demonstrated the talent necessary for a Junior of the Year nomination. Not bad for a kid who only raced in three events and didn't train.
Here were his results:
- 3rd overall / Jr.CR @ Brewhouse Sprint - 1:03:48
- 4th overall @ Lakes Country Triathlon
- 7th overall @ Heart of the Lakes Sprint - 47:10...
We're hoping that Nathan, who is part Vulcan (photo), will race more often in '16, and perhaps add a little training, as well. We'd love to see how he fares against "The Usual Suspects," guys like Nick Klonne (2015 JOY) Jake Croteau and Mithcell Clayton (2x JOY Nominee).
The most impressive performance by a junior girl in 2015 was, in our opinion, ALYSON WELSH's victory at Rochesterfest Sprint. The 16-year-old's time was insane - 59:02, the fifth fastest women's time ever and ten minutes better than the previous Jr. CR. Sadly for us, Rochesterfest was her only (non-drafting) triathlon performance in 2015. Her parents are interested in seeing how she fares in Olympic-style / ITU racing. We wish her well with that, though we'd love to see her race more often in non-drafting events, where her tatent and aptitude are obvious.
