We're not sure who has adopted whom, but Best of the U.S. and the city of Saint Paul are so happy together they've changed the race name and with great pleasure introduce the Capitol City Tri (formerly and aka Best of the U.S. Sprint). The date remains June 22, the venue is Lake Phalen.
"The sprint race will still host the BOUS Championship," said Director Trudy Marshall. "But the Sprint is for everyone, and we wanted the name to reflect that. Our goal is to create an instant classic. We're celebrating all of Minnesota's--and particularly Saint Paul's-- treasures: its incredible parks; its dynamism and energy; its diversity; people and businesses small and large coming together for fitness and recreation. We Minnesotans are so blessed! What an awesome place we have to work and play."...
Capitol City has also shortened the swim to 500 meters (from 750), to make it more accessible to recreational participants. The run is a sweet loop around Lake Phalen, and you can see a flyover video of the bike course here.
Equally neat is Capitol City's new Team Games. As the name implies, it's all about having fun with friends and compatriots. The rules are easy:
1. Any group of 5 or more people can be a Team
2. No maximum number per Team
3. Each member (whether 5 or 500) saves $20 off race entry
4. The Team gets 10 x 10 tent space along the finish chute--promote your cause, brand your group, make it a family reunion--whatever you like
Team Games Prizes go to
• The FASTEST Team (average of all members' times)
• The SLOWEST Team (average of all members' times)
• The BIGGEST Team
Prizes will be fun events/excursions/parties for the entire Team.
