Do you have any idea how much good work Team In Training is doing---right here in Minnesota? We didn't. So we were happily surprised and wanted to share some information with you.
For instance, last year alone the Leukemia & Lymphome Society awarded $2.9 million for five separate research grants at Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota. The Team in Training partnership with Life Time Minneapolis Triathlon has raised over $973,000 since 2008 and they fully expect to break the $1 million mark this year...
That's 613 people trained and competing at LT Mpls.
If you are wondering about local need, consider:
• Within the Minnesota Chapter (MN, SD, ND) there were nearly 3,000 new diagnoses of blood cancer last year.
• 1,962 patients were served via LLS' various family and peer support groups, educational programs, etc. in 2013.
• Also last year 1,272 Minnesota Chapter patients received $1,167,365 for co-pay assistance and financial aid.
Pretty fine work. And reason enough to perhaps take a fresh look at training and racing with Team In Training. Of course there are more events to target (like Racine 70.3). Visit their website for specifics on their 2014 training and racing plans and benefits. Training plans are starting now.
