Musical Motivation...

One of MTN's goals is to get triathletes (and duathletes, of course) to talk to eat other, i.e. to build community through interaction. This is the purpose of our periodic "Off Course" features, like the one we posted last Tuesday about Jason Crisp. We want, in Jason's case, for someone he's never met to approach him at a race site, ...

introduce themself, and say something like, "You know, Jason, my wife also gives me crap about leaving cupboard chris-and-thomas.gifdoors open."

Today MTN is going to let you in on the musical preferences of a few of our state's prominent athletes. Hopefully this will start some conversations. In fact, the next time we see Angie Hop at a race, we plan to discuss the underappreciated greatness of such 80s rock bands as "Night Ranger" and "38 Special."

Some of these preferences might surprise you.

- Kevin O'Connor totally likes Taylor Swift. Seriously. (We think this is so cool!)

- Jenn Scudiero is into "Leftover Cuties." (We love the band's name. We listened to "Game Called Life" and think that lead vocalist Shirli McAllen is awesome.)

lorde-2013-650-430a.gif- Claire Bootsma likes to listen to "Chris & Thomas." (We looked them up on Wikipedia and were captivated by their history. We listened to a live version  of "Take These Thoughts" and were blown away by the duo's musicianship.)

- Marisa Skees is fond of 17-year-old Kiwi, Lorde (photo L).(Who isn't?)

- Cathy Yndestad listens to "Gaelic Storm." (Great traditional Celtic music. Listened to "Scalliwag" and thought it was terrific. Photo below L)

- Chris Sachs is into "High Octane Minnesota" (photo below R), a local cover band who have a cool slogan "Rock is Fuel." (We like groups with fat guys, and this band has a couple of those. The more you drink, the better these guys sound.)
