Lake Waconia Tri Lives!

For 24 years, founder Tom Konrardy and cohort Marvin Denzer produced one of the most-beloved of many treasured races in Minnesota, the Lake Waconia Triathlon. Together with their spouses, families, friends and what often seemed like the entire town of Waconia volunteering, they poured heart and soul into producing a magical event--professional, personal, warm and supportive from the first splash into the gorgeous lake, up and down Cemetery Hill and back to a warm congratulations and handshake at the end of the finish chute. 

But 24 years is a long time, so while many hearts broke at last summer's news that Tom and Marvin et al were retiring from the race, who really could blame them. 

So we're sure you'll be as delighted as we were to hear today confirmation that Final Stretch, Inc., well-known producer of favorite running and multisport races around the state is the proud new owner of the Lake Waconia Triathlon.

"We are extremely happy and honored to be selected by Tom and Marvin to preserve the legacy they created with this race," said Final Stretch owner Mark Bongers. "Lake Waconia is a perfect fit with our growing family of triathlons and duathlons. We are thrilled to be able to keep this race going for the athletes of Minnesota." The 2014 date for the race is Sunday, June 29. Registration is open.
