New Races in 2014...

lake-phalen-rwmwd.gifThe 2014 racing calendar will feature some exciting new events. In 2013, there was the Shell Lake Triathlon and Esprit de She Du. Next year, which started yesterday, we can look forward to at least four promisIng new races.

They are:

- BEST OF THE US NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS on June 22 at its permanent new home at Lake Phalen in St. Paul. (photo L). This event is much more than an elite race for invitees from all 50 states. Just as important to the organziers will be the BOUS Sprint Triathlon that is open to all participants. Help make this race an annual classic for Minnesotans to enjoy for decades to come. - USAT DUATHLON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS on July 19 at Harriet Island in St. Paul. This venue will also host Du Nationals in 2015. In 2000, the Apple Duathlon in Sartell did a spectacular job of hosting Nationals. We are confident that the St. Paul organizers will promulgate that legacy. RACE WEBSITE

shady-oak.gif- HITS TRIATHLON WEEKEND on August 16-17 at Lake Waconia. MTN has already posted info on this 'Something For Everyone" event. If you missed that post, link HERE.

- HOPKINS ROYAL TRIATHLON on August 30 at Shady Oak Beach (photo L) in Hopkins. The director of this event is Doobie Kurus. Have you met him? He's the guy who carries a football when he finishes races. He was nicknamed for the "Doobie Doobie Do" portion of the Frank Sinatra song, "Strangers in the Night," and not because his parents were perpetually stoned hippies. Doobie is a great guy with a heart as big as Mille Lacs, thus there is every reason to assume that the Hopkins Royals Triathlon will be a great race with a heart as big as Mille Lacs.
