Summer Wins Are Earned In The Winter

The entire month of October and the holiday season were extremely difficult for my family and for me. For the last 3 1/2 months I have been doing nothing but spending time with my family and preoccupying myself with lots of work and training. Running is the world's most wonderful distraction and there are few things that I enjoy more in life than a nice long run all alone.

Happy 2013!!! 13 has been my lucky number since I was a little girl so I have high hopes this year for everyone close to me....

I spent the last two weekends in a row with my parents and last weekend we booked a condo at a resort in Kona for 10 nights for my Ironman. It is 1.5 miles from the starting line with ocean access. Ironman #2 now feels like a reality and I can't wait! It seems like there are so many ways I can cut down time that have nothing to do with swimming, biking, and running so I am anxious to tri another and execute transitions and equipment preparation much smarter the second go around.

Two weeks from tomorrow I am running a marathon in FL. My goal is to beat my coach's IM marathon PR which was also in FL and is 3:18. I have put in some solid training (the 11 days I spent running only in FL listening to Kid Rock and sleeping in every day over Christmas and New Years) and I have had some major setbacks (the flu that I have right now and just can't seem to shake). But the quality and consistent training usually override the setbacks so I will find out what happens on race day. On day #2 of staying home from work sick this week I registered for 5 races for 2013.

Wishing everyone their best year yet! I want to be happier and healthier this year, set bigger goals than last year and I want accomplish more for myself. I also want to give my athletes and the corporate employees I work with the tools they need to be happier and healthier and help them set bigger goals and accomplish more for themselves.

One of my friends sent me this and then she changed it to "SUMMER WINS ARE EARNED IN THE WINTER." I love it!
