Minnesota Multisport Awards - With so many evenly matched 40-plussers, this was the most contentious category. Coming up a tad short from a race volume standpoint were Jan Guenther, Joyce Bourassa and Tina Hjeltman. The resumes of Veronica Bond, Jamie Heying, Leslie Englert, Laura Swartz, Christine Mitchell and Sue Rubens also received heavy scrutiny.
Here are the official nominees:
HEIDI KELLER-MILER, 47, Chaska
HKM won the MOY in 2011 and 2007. Her 2012 resume featured a big win at Lake Waconia, and clear masters victories at Trinona Olympic (4th overall behind Ruth, Claire and Wisconsin's Kim Goodell) and Life Time Tri - Minneapolis Elite (5th overall behind CY, Ruth, Claire and Kort). ...
CHRISTEL KIPPENHAN, 47, Bemidji
Also nominated for this award back in 2009, Christel won two tris this year (Northwoods and Lakes Country), cracked the Top 5 at Brewhouse and placed 6th at Manitou.
ANGIE SCHMIDT, 42, St. Paul (photo R)
This is the first MMA nomination for Ang, who was our state's premier 40+ female long distance racer this year. She placed 2nd overall at Square Lake and 3rd at Liberty. She was also 1st master / 3rd overall at both of the Leadman Epic Series races (Vegas 125 and Bend 250).
ANN SNUGGERUD, 45, Chaska
An MOY nominee in 2011, what we love about Ann is that she thrives on competition. Check out her impressive results: 2nd overall at Timberman; 5th overall at YWCA, Chisago Half, Trinona Olympic and Buffalo Olympic; 6th overall at Gear West, Lake Minnetonka and Lake Waconia.
