Wishing For Ponies....

By Darin Wieneke

A family had twin boys whose only resemblance to each other was their looks. If one felt it was too hot, the other thought it was too cold. If one said the TV was too loud, the other claimed the volume needed to be turned up. Opposite in every way, one was an eternal optimist, the other a doom and gloom pessimist.....

Just to see what would happen, on Christmas their father loaded the pessimist's room with every imaginable toy and game. The optimist's room he loaded with horse manure.

That morning the father passed by the pessimist's room and found him sitting amid his new gifts crying bitterly.

"Why are you crying?" the father asked.

"Because my friends will be jealous, I'll have to read all these instructions before I can do anything with this stuff, I'll constantly need batteries, and my toys will eventually get broken." answered the pessimist twin.pony

Passing the optimist twin's room, the father found him dancing for joy in the pile of manure. "What are you so happy about?" he asked.

To which his optimist twin replied, "There's got to be a pony in here somewhere!"

MTN wishes you this type of optimism in 2012! In addition, we hope you receive all the triathlon toys, preferably purchased from our sponsors, you requested in the letter you mailed to Santa and copied to your loved ones.

I recently "talked" to some triathlon friends on Facebook in order to learn what they were hoping to find under their trees. This is what they are wishing for:

-W. Harvey Skees is looking to podium at a few more races in 2012 with the help of a Garmin 910XT. Cost: $449.99

-Joe Rydel is hoping for a 2 mph increase in his bike average. Cost: Blood, sweat and lots of chafing.

- Jon Steckler must have been good in 2011 as he is dreaming of a Computrainer. Cost: $1,700.00

-Klo Lochomotion requested more limber hamstrings. Cost: Likely some physical therapy and lots of Bio Freeze pain cream.

-Samuel Kidane put Shimano Di2 upgrade kit on his wishlist: Cost: His first child.

-Greg Gredvig is looking for the whole tri package (coaching, wetsuit and more) to aid him in his sophomore triathlon season. Cost: Lots of compliments to his smart, hard working and beautiful wife.

Happy Holidays!
