37th APPLE DUATHLON - In our previous post we predicted the men's podium at this Saturday's Apple Du: PATRICK PARISH, JESSON BAUMGARTNER and ALEX ARMAN are our picks, though we acknowledge that late elite registrants like TODD BUCKINGHAM, SEAN COOLEY and TED TREISE could upset that. (We almost said "upset that apple cart," but we've never understood that metaphor. We also don't know what it means to feel like "a room without a roof," which is a Pharrell deal. Do rooms have roofs? They have ceilings....)
We digress....
Today we are predicting the women's podium, which we are basing on the last entry list we saw. Yes, we suspect that some elite late sign-ups, like HANNA GRINAKER, DANI VSETECKA and CHRISTINA ROBERTS, will make the trek to Sartell, thereby having a cattywampuss-y and/or kerfluffley effect on our picks.
That's fine with us. We're not married to our selections. We just like to talk about impressive people.
So here are our picks and some of their credentials:
1. DIANE HANKEE, 42, Lake Elmo
- 33 career multisport wins
Apple Highlights:
- 1st in 2016
- 3rd in 2017 & 2014
2. JENN SCUDIERO, 35, Eagan
- 14 career duathlon victories
- 2013 USAT Duathlete of the Year
- 2013 Duathlon National Champion
Apple Highlights:
- 3rd in 2013
- 5th in 2014
3. ANDREA MYERS, 43, Plymouth (photo)
- 5 wins in last two seasons
- 3 x Minnesota Master of the Year nominee
Apple Highlights:
- 2nd in 2018
- 8th - 1st Master- in 2017
We will make some Age Group predictions in our next post. This year's Apple will is expecting a great turnout, and we hope that you'll be a part of that. If you don't feel you are fit or ready to race, come to Sartell anyway to absorb the comaradery as either a cheering spectator or a enthusiastic volunteer. RACE WEBSITE
